I'm doing it to eliminate the majority of road noise. I'm putting in a 12" sub and my exhaust sounds louder inside than out. I heard that stuff from lowes (stick n peel) is garbage. Idk but I think u get the chemical smell from it.

The stuff from lowes is called roofing flash. It's like Butyl-propelene something or another with aluminum backing. Dynomat sticks better, and smells better upon initial install. If you go the cheap route, then get a good heat gun, some good rollers, well ventilated area, and have at it. I wouldn't suggest hanging this stuff from your roof though, since the adhesive qualities arent the best in the world I don't think i'd trust it hanging upside down with heat battering down on your roof. The roof isn't a huge huge source of noise anyways.

Then over your tire wells in the rear you can use carpet matting, with spray adhesive, and then stuff quilt or pillow padding that you can get at walmart or a craft store. 90% of the time this stuff is flame retardent so that's always a plus.

Most of your road noise will come from tire wells. You can take your front fender well linings out and spray the backside *side not facing the tire* with spray on rubber sound deadening stuff in a can, rustoleum makes it I think they sell it at autozone. The rear I mentioned above. Exhaust noise will come from your trunk/hatch. Get a quieter muffler, or sound deaden your whole trunk or both.

Very informative, thanks for the info guys.
My CX is driving me deaf, the road noise is insane.
It's just not right when your ears ring everytime you take your car on the highway.
