h22a swap questions..
ok, new to the site, fairly new to hondas. so i picked up a 96 accord with h22a swap, guy i bought it from had it for like 3 yrs and he bought it with the swap and really knew nothing about it. so from what im understanding its a h22a motor, p2a5 5spd.. the ecu is a p13. what i need to know is how can i tell if this thing is a obd2 swap? the ecu says p13, a guy i know was looking it over and he says it looks to have a step down or some type of harness on it , said the dist also looks to be obd2 and a few other wires he noticed said looked like obd2? it has a CEL on and only after you drive it for about 5mins it kicks on, speedo isnt working so not sure if thats related but vtec does not kick , was told that is probably speedo and CEL related.. but i had autozone try and read the ecu for codes and they couldnt get it to work, just kept coming back saying error from the obd2 port, so im guessing its not obd2? how do i verify? also the ecu says its a automatic?? thanks for any help you can give!
If it's H22A it's not OBDII......
If it's a JDM P13 (most likely what it is) it isn't OBDII
Both of those items would make the OBDII port useless, I had a similar setup at one point in my personal car before going to a chipped P28. Speedometer and odometer not working could be due to the wiring swap, bad VSS, or the speedometer circuitry crappy out due to age. All are definitely possibilities. You can scan the CEL by using the two pin blue connector below/behind the glovebox. Simply put a paper clip in it and count the flashes - if you do a search on HT (think it's in Accord FAQ) you can find the resulting code.
*edit*
The CEL could also be for the knock sensor, I would imagine the VSS CEL would come on instantly, the knock sensor (CEL 23 if I recall) gave me problems for awhile as well. You can solve it by either getting a chipped ECU with it disabled/ignored or installing it and running the wiring to the ECU.

ok.. well the p13 has these #s on it.. 37820-p13-j50 556 jat.. yeah if it is obd1 which im sure it is.. i need it to be obd2 to pass inspection.. whats the process involved in that? does the ECU being for a auto car effect anything since its a 5spd?
For starters, you better pray they didn't hack up the original harness and used a jumper one.
The ECU you need is a USDM OBDII P13, rather rare, only were available in like 1 or 2 years for Preludes. They pop up on eBay every so often. You'll need to change the distributor amongst other things. It can be done but it's not going to be immediate or cheap. There's a few threads on HT about it.

P13-A12 is the one that came in the '96 Prelude VTEC. The only one that's OBD2 and doesn't have an immobilizer. I couldn't locate one in my area and had to get the car set up so that I could use an OBD1 P72 ECU day to day. Then when emissions/inspection comes around, I swap it out for the stock OBD2 F22 VTEC ECU. It runs fine if you keep the RPM low just for that one day out of the year.
