Default d16z6 bogging under acceleration.

I was driving on the interstate today and I went to pass, and the car pretty much fell on its face. It slowed down and I had to barely press the gas to get it to maintain speed.
I got it over to Autozone and ran a compression test and my results were much better than expected. Cyl 1:195 2:195 3:200 4:205.
I tried to start it up after that and it wouldnt start. I figured out I had no spark and I ended up replacing the dizzy. After I did that I got the car started and drove it home. On the way, it drove like ***, just like it did on the freeway earlier in the day.

I have no clue what it making it do this. The car does burn a lot of oil which made me think it was a compression issue, but after the test, thats not the case.

My parents car had a similar problem once, and the cat had clogged up and was causing a lot of back pressure. Could that be the problem with my car?

Thanks for the help.

I found this thread and I think this is my problem. Burning the oil killed the cat and is clogging it now.

I ran the car open header a little this morning and it still bogged. Next thought is low fuel pressure.

Anyone have some input?

I would guess this.
Have you pulled the plugs and checked them?

I doubt it. Before it was acting up, I had it retarded as far as it would go, and I put the new dizzy back on the same way.

Plugs are brand new. They only have the 5 miles it took to get the car back to the house.

I bought a fuel pressure gauge and i'm going to put that on tonight. I am thinking the fuel filter might be bad. I just replaced the fuel pump 300 miles ago so thats not it.

How is this set correctly?
You just slapped on a distributor and never used a timing light.
Not saying it's definitely your issue, but whatever you did there isn't right.

I will re-check it, but I dont think thats the problem. I used a light and set the timing on the old dizzy about 100 miles ago. Could it change if I use a different dizzy? Like I said, Its set in the same place as the old one.

I've heard non oem distributors usually dont work on the ef's. you may have problems there.
does it rev with no load? (out of gear) check your air filter (not likely but get rid of every possible problem before you throw money at it) check to see if you have any stored codes, clear them then drive it and see if any more pop up. keep us posted!
also could be fuel filter. in the last 2 years (ish) they have added alot of cleaning agents to fuel to keep the underground tanks clean, so that means all that crap is now in your car... I've seen those problems a lot since I heard about the new fuel.

Suspect number 1 right now is the fuel filter.

No codes. No CEL or any stored. I have a cone filter that is fine. It revs perfect out of gear.

I HIGHLY doubt it.

I'll check this also. I just did the timing belt about 100 miles ago, and havnt revved the car super high or anything, but nothing is impossible.

Oh. My bad. Totally didn't catch it that you burn oil.
Do you get clouds of smoke? -while driving or at stops?

O ok, because my hatch did that but it was because of one of my cylinders being flooded. I guess my problem was different from this though..

Okay, I set the mechanical timing, set the dizzy timing, put a new fuel filter on, put a new PCV, and put a fuel pressure gauge on. Fuel pressure is at ~38psi.

Not a fuel issue, not a ignition issue, not a timing issue, not a compression issue.

I'm staring to think that its the oil flooding the cylinders because its now smoking an *** ton.

I have a B2 head, and I am thinking I will put that on there just to see if its an issue with the valve seats being WAY gone.
Any more Ideas?

If you wanna test the valve seats, let the car idle to 15 minutes to let the oil pool up, then floor the pedal (rev it high) if you see a ton of smoke behind you, its a valve seat, seal issue, if not I would suggest something else.

So get this, I drove it to the closest gas station and put more gas in it and it runs perfect now. No bogging, less smoke, and full power. Car had half a tank in it before. I guess I have to chalk this one up to bad gas.

Car is still smoking but its not nearly as bad as it used to be.
