3 Cluster lights won't work, shop says buy entirely new cluster?
My friend just bought a 2000 GS-R and none of the 194 lights work. I know the bulbs are fine because I put them in my car. The light in the change holder does not come on and the lights behind the dash for the A/C, heat, defrost, etc. buttons do not work either.
However, the green blinker lights flash, the blue high-beam light comes on, the red brake light/srs light/etc. come on and so does the yellow gas light.
He took it to an automotive shop and, apparently, they told him the circuit board was fried and he needed to buy an entirely new one that would be $250. I called major bullsh!t.
We've checked the fuses, they're all fine. Even replaced them, just in case there was a bad connection on one of them for whatever reason.
I'm assuming it's some kind of wiring issue? I called the seller of this car and he admitted to, "Taking the cluster out and messing with some stuff that could have caused it. Also, the radio doesn't have an orange wire hooked to it and that could be it."
^Those were his words.
Thanks H-T.

I have to agree, "Dash Lights Brightness Controller", [dimmer].
Pull the switch and make sure it is plugged in, if it is, unplug it and use a jumper, [paper clip] to connect the red lead and the black lead, see if dash lights work, you can also test for power at the DLBD, red/black. 94
