I just bought a 89 hatch and it ran fine all day the first day I had it. Had a little bit of an idle issue but thats it. I was driving home that evening and it died. Now it won't start. The fuel pump is kicking on. Sometimes when i try to turn it over it just clicks like the battery is dead and other times it cranks over then dies again. The ecu is throwing code 74 (which i think it a random misfire for cylinder 4). The timing belt also feels a little loose. Any ideas on what to do?

 

Start by checking all the main power and ground connection, remove them, clean them, reconnect them. 94

 

We fixed the problem. Pulled the distributor cap off and it fell apart. The distrubutor was also busted. Replaced the disrtibutor and it fired right up.

 

Gas maybe?

goddamn honda distributors, they seem to go bad more than anything else on my engine. i've replaced more ignitors and coils than i can remember.
