French 89' ZC CRX - B16a1 swap/LSD/S2k cluster/... [pics]
Hello,
for a couple of years i've been looking at a CRX to buy. I have had a good opportunity to get one in 2005 so i bought it !
It's a 1989 Honda CRX with the 1L6 non-VTEC engine (130HP, called ZC in the US i guess ..). Pretty good condition, no rust on rear archs, and in good wealth !
It gaves me lots of pleasure on road during those years and i went for the first on track with it. Some minor modifications later (Bilstein, big brakes, good road tires), I began to feel the necessity to go on the next step : building a real track-day and time-attack car !
******
This project is currently in progress, and I hope that it will shows you what french honda owners are trying to do on the other Atlantic side.
The US are known for some very nice honda rebuild or upgrade. So let me know what do you think of my work in progress
You can watch pictures on my own website :
http://www.yogicustom.com/accueil.php
http://www.yogicustom.com/honda_crx_racecar_001.php
--> Here are the specs :
- 89' honda CRX
- B16a1 swap
- S9b tranny swap (Integra-R LSD / hydraulic clutch)
- S2k cluster swap
- Bilstein B8 suspension with H&R springs
- Front EF vtec knuckles
- Front 98' Integra TYPE-R brake calipers upgrade with 282mm rotors
- Rear 260mm brake upgrade, based on crx calipers with my own CNC machined brackets
- ..
(Sorry for my english if there is some mistakes in it !!)

****** S2k cluster ******
With the S2k cluster, i'm in the same situation than lots of people who wants to do the swap : no s2k wires available on the cluster side ... only pin connectors.
With the motor SWAP, i didn't get the dashboard wires to connect on the main wires of the car. So my solution is :
1/ On the car side, i weld each wire.
2/ On the cluster side, i had to find a connector which allows to gives a good (and secure) contact on each pin. My solution is to open a honda female connector coming from an unused wire. Open it and get each individual female connector. After some try, you find connectors which have the right side to be instaled on cluster pins
3/ But i don't want to connect both side of each wire directly. Cluster should remain free to get out of the dashboard "easily". So i use a sub-D connector (electronic or computer spare parts). Here it is :

S2k cluster swap is just some weld work. I found all needed informations (wiring diagrams) on Honda-Tech, and a complete diagram of the cluster pins on MarkLamond website. Need a modifry and SpeedoHealer V4 unit, and go

I had a good opportunity to get a low mileage brrake master cylinder coming from a 98' TYPE-R integra, but without booster.
My booster is in very good condition so i decided to use it but the ITR MC can't go on it "bolt-on". I've made my bracket to mount MC onto the booster.
The part just in front of the MC is a homemade stopper. You can take a look :

Hi,
lots of stuff to do after coming back from a 1 year job in Hong Kong.
So no big upgrades on my car, front BREMBO big brakes are under design :

All parts are stored for OBD0 --> OBD1 upgrade (ECU P28, HONDATA S300, ignitor, harnesses ...) and everything to mode properly to B18c TYPE-R camshafts (new ITR LMA's, double springs and retainers ...)
Not so much time to give a LOOT of updates, so don't forget also to register to my website newsletter (on my own website) :

Both FRENCH and ENGLISH languages are available on it, and newsletter is just here to let you know when new articles are published. No bothering !!!

Hi guys,
I've just put online on my own website 3D and 2D FILES you can download.
Those files have been fully created by myself and I'm using the setup on my CRX. I hope this will help you guys move on bigger rear brakes to get back a good braking balance between front and rear.

Based on a FR euro CRX, those plates are only usable on a phase 1 crx. You'll have to double check if it's ok to install on other models (US market and so on ... I don't know !)
Take care on the road

Je te souhaite le succès sur le circuit. Je suis content de voir qu"il y a des "fans" de honda EF de l'autre coté de l'atlantique !!!!!
Bonne continuation
