fan runs an hour after shut off
OK guys I have a 91 integra and recently I have noticed that after driving it for a while and shutting it off the fans run for a period of time. I know this is normal in our cars but the fan stays on for at least a half an hour. Now at first I was thinking it was over heating and I wasnt noticing it but It doesnt. The cars temp gauge warms up fine and never hits half way. The fan has been doing this for about 3 months but I have had the car for over three years and it just started doing this winter and has never done it in the summer. The second thing that kinda gets me worried is the fact that when it rains and I drive it for a long period of time I notice smoke evaporating off my hood (car is painted flat black if that makes a difference) and coming from underneath my car.I dont have any of the plastic wheel wells covers or anything under my car so I didnt know if it was just excess water getting hot. Sitting in traffic it looks weird and I have never had a car do that. Should my engine be getting so hot that it slowly evaps water like that? So really those are my 2 problems so if anyone could suggest anything I would appreciate it.
get a fiberglass/carbon fiber/bamboo hood, something that won't absorb heat from a 212degree running engine. Heat rises you know.... but check fan relays Homie G. some might be sticking
Rad fan is kept on, [when ign. is off] by the "RADIATOR FAN CONTROL MODULE" with input from the "ENGINE OIL TEMPERATURE SWITCH", either the EOTS is bad or the RFCM is bad, it is unlikely the rad fan relay. 94

Problem: The fan runs continuously (longer than 19-minutes) when the key is removed. The symptom is a dead battery. The fan turns off only when the ignition is turn ON (not off, correction) and while the high temperature thermoswitch (108 degrees) is checked out okay then 90% chance the fan timer is bad. Usually happens to the 90-93 Accords. If the fan runs after removing the key on a cold engine then something could be wrong with the high temputure thermoswitch. After the key is removed and the engine cold and by plugging the high temperature thermoswitch back in and the fan runs then the high temperature thermoswitch is bad. Solution: The reasonable solution is to replace the timer control unit. Before replacing the unit it would be prudent to troubleshoot. When the fan does not turn off after 15 minutes swap the cooling fan relays in the engine fuse compartment with another identical relay. If the fan refuses to turn off replace the fan timer unit.
Replacement: Remove the access panel on the driver's kick panel and search for a box way in there the size of two cigarette packs with 8-terminals. The 86-89 Accord fan timer unit is located under the passenger seat. Unbolt the unit and swap it with a new one.
