dc5 recaro seats
well what does one expect to pay for a set now? there is one vendor on here that was trying to rob me asking $1500 dollars which i think is ridiculous price for used seats. i realize their getting harder to find now as well, if any of you can name a few online stores that sell them that would be cool. also how hard is it to clean a set of these? i've seen some people selling them horribly dirty right off the shippment container. any info on these seats would be greatly appreciated.
ALSO VENDORS please do not PM me your insane price because i wont pay it.

I paid $1200 for my Recaro seats. Prices vary on several things
a) Color - (Blue More rare more expensive, black more wanted, red ballar as ****
)
b) Condition - They are getting older and more broken in. But some seats look like **** and some look amazing. I paid more cause mine are very mint. My black seats only ran me $900 and they weren't as clean
c) Rail/Brackets - do they come with the rails and brackets for your chasis

If they're in MINT condition with rails + shipping included, not a bad deal, but I'd seriously wait and do some more searching. I've seen, like what Spaz said, around 900 to 1200 with or w/o rails in 8/10 condition. Keep in mind though, the seats, IMO, are not a bad investment. Investment in a sense that you probably won't loose their value too much over-time. woo~~~, I want black ones...
I'd rather feel safe than to look baller in my $400 Reecaro seats

Also if you get aftermarket/JDM seats, don't be a ricer and use 4-point harnesses unless you have a full cage and it's a track-only car. For daily driven street cars, a 4-point harness is more dangerous than a 3-point (OEM) seatbelt. Ask me why.
honestly i just love the way the red ones look, i want a pair but cant seem to find em for a good price, some jackass vendor was quoting me some ridiculous price i told him sorry cant do it. and i bet he's still sitting on them. by the way im not throwing them into an rsx or and EP3 i want them in my Del sol, they look just bad *** looking especially a white car
2 reasons really.
1. The mounting points for the rear 2 straps must be in the correct position. Most people anchor these to the rear passenger seat belt points, this is WRONG. The downward angle of the strap can cause neck/spinal compression during an accident. Mounting the seat belts like this gives you mad JDM street cred, but it's a death trap waiting to happen.
Like this - bad:

2. You don't want a 4-point seat belt unless you have a full roll cage in your car. Why? When you get in an accident (and assuming you flip over and the roof caves in), you need mobility to have your shoulders/back/upper torso to move away from the crushed-in roof. I'm talking while the accident is happening, when your body is being thrown about the cabin like a ragdoll.
With a 4-point seatbelt, you are held in place and can't move away from the roof. This is when you want a cage, so that the roof won't cave in. And then, presumably, you're safe because you also have a helmet to protect your head from hitting the roll cage, and a 4-point seat belt to keep you anchored in place. Having a 4-pt harness without a cage =
This is the right way to mount your 4/5/6 point harness:

Gotta be safe out there. For a daily driven car, you really have to ask yourself if what you're doing is safe when you deviate from the OEM-protection devices. OEM is best when it comes to safety for DD cars.

good info about the harness, im not planing on throwing them on the seats if i do get a set, has anyone bought a set that needed a good cleaning?? was it hard to do ? also can anyone recommend any good places online to buy from?? im not trying to get raped on the price and im not trying to get a shitty pair
You'll just have to search the classifieds for a deal. Retail shops will charge more than you'd find from a private seller. This is all assuming you want JDM Recaro Type-R seats. You can get Sparco/Recaro race seats for less than you'd spend on JDM seats from reputable websites. (I say reputable because you want to make sure they aren't knock-offs)
Any steam/extraction type carpet cleaning device should work to clean the seats. Problem is the good cleaning machines aren't really available unless you buy a commercial strength one, so you might just have to pay to have them professionally cleaned.

im still searching for these damn seats, and let me tell you.. its damn hard to find a clean set on ebay and everyone on this forum as well as others i post and look in no one has chimed in yet... well the hunt still goes one i guess
with 900 budget, you need to be super patient to find a MINT set. I've been looking for blk/red ones for over a month and can't find one I like, or near IL for me to pickup. These scarce commodities aren't something I want to ship w/o first inspecting them in person! Also, consider spending extra 150 to 200 for new recaro brackets, unless you find one right out of ep3 chassis. FYI, one of our member's selling his 30th year anniversary Recaros with super mint condition, but they're way over our budget. GL!!!
