Icon2 Japanese Motor

So i recently just got my motor for my 97 Ek. My original car was an automatic( that finally blew a connecting rod through the oil pan and block at 220,000 miles) and am going to put a manual in. I am wondering a few things, like does it matter that the motor is from japan when i am ordering parts for it. I already got the pedals, master cylinder, ecu. Still waiting on the wiring harness. The fuel rail looks different, v-tec solenoid looks different (two solenoids), and a couple little things as well that look different. The harness that came with it is cut, which irritates me because the guy said it wasn't going to be. He told me all I had to do was cut three plugs and rewire them. I don't know which ones to cut, and i don't want a cut and spliced harness anyway, so thats why I'm just going to order a complete wiring harness for manual. I'm just getting a little worried because the top end of the motor ( mainly the intake manifold and fuel rail) has a few different things than my original motor. didn't know if this just had to do with it being a manual. The jack( )( ) filed down the motor id so i really cant tell if its a d1y8 or not but was told specifically that it is

That's a D15B dual vtec engine, as you already noticed the dual vtec solenoid, also the EGR valve right behind it. I know a few people have successfully got this engine wired in and running correctly, with the right ecu. But I don't know if anyone on this forum has done it.

Search D15B dual vtec swaps and see if some threads pop up that can help answer your questions better than me.

Wow, I knew something was going on when the engine code was sanded down. I know it could be done but I don't want to rig things up. I want it to look and be as stock and factory as it was originally. Thanks a lot, now got to work on getting my damn money back.

Where did you buy it from? a business or a personal sale? There are very few reliable, reputable businesses that sell swaps. Good luck!

I've done it... I have one in my '99 lx sedan with no CEL. If you cannot get your money back, two main parts you are looking at to get it right would be the correct ECU ($150-200) and an intake manifold out of a manual HX (d16y5) ONLY if the one you got is out of an automatic. Or if you want to go down a potentially easier route, you could get a chipped p72 ecu and a EX (d16y8) intake manifold to bypass the EGR. Ontop of that, there's a descent amount of wiring required.

^ Suggestion 2 sounds pretty good in the long run.

I don't know much about this specific swap but from the outside looking in if you can use the y8 intake, and a chipped p72...go for it. The y8 performs pretty well, and depending on your performance goals later on down the road a chipped p72 will be much more flexible.

it was from a business, and i have already sent him an email saying i want my money back and for him to arrange to ship it back, if i cant get my money back, i was thinking of maybe swapping the head off my old motor since it's still good and using the bottom end. I'm just irritated by it all. you cant trust no one i guess.

IIRC it was for economy. Basically it was a combination of the vtec and vtec-e technology.
