Default Questions about D16Z6 swap in an 88-91 CRX

I'm looking at buying a 1988-91 CRX, but I'd want to swap in a D16Z6 VTEC single overhead cam engine. I know the transmission will bolt right up, but my question goes more for exhaust and intake and engine mounts and computer.

Would I need to use the CR-X headers when shopping, or Del Sol/1992-95 Civic headers? Or are they all the same thing?

Same question goes with exhaust.

Also, with intake, would I need to buy a Del Sol intake, or a CRX intake, or just fab up my own?

Engine mounts: Can I just reuse the factory mounts?

I know the car will be due for a P28 ECU for the VTEC swap, but also, what about the wiring? Will I need a specific wiring harness for the swap?

header needs to fit the motor, but they both take the same one so you are good.

exhaust needs to fit the car. if you buy a system for a hatchback, the pipe will be different length in some places because the CRX wheelbase is shorter.

For the intake, buy one for a CRX SI or just fab up your own.

You need to use the mounts that are in the car now.

P28 ECU. I would HIGHLY recommend a jumper harness for the ECU. it is MUCH easier that way. You can wire it up yourself, but its a bunch of bullshit. I did it in my car and it took me 10's of hours of research, and about 10-15 hours of work on the wiring. You can search "obd0-obd1 jumper harness" and you'll get a bajillion results.

Reuse the factory mounts. You'll have to swap over the actually timing belt side mount that is mounted to the block from the old engine to the Z6. You can use either the Z6 exhaust manifold or the one from your old engine. Any aftermarket intake for a 88-00 d series (minus the 88-91 D15B or 96-00 D16Y7) will work. You can reuse your exhaust. What model and engine do you have right now? If you don't have an EX or Si you'll need to convert to MPFI and then convert to OBD1 using an ECU adapter harness and use the Z6 distributor with an adapter harness. For additional wiring you'll need to wire up VTEC solenoid, VTEC pressure switch, 3 additional wires for the O2 sensor and rewire the fan switch from the back of the block to the thermostat housing. If you don't have the D16A6 engine you'll need to wire up some OBD1 injector plugs and use the Z6 injectors otherwise you can reuse the D16A6 injectors.

I'm late to the party! But did your 1.5 header fit the D16z6?!
thanks in advance!

Most likely yes it would fit, it's mounting point from the head to clearance of the oil pan would be with-in a few mm but should work no problem. The header difference for fitment issues would be more for b series with them having a greater difference in deck hieghts between say a b16 vs b18/b20..
