Default Walbro Fuel pump installation fuel pressure relief question

I know how to relieve fuel pressure before uninstalling the stock fuel pump and installing my aftermarket one, but the thing is my car is apart because im in the process of a build. I can't run it until it stalls after unplugging the fuel pump.
Would it be unsafe to remove the stock one without doing this?
Someone told me i could just remove the gas cap and itd be fine.

Any pressure in tank would be "released" when cap is removed. 94

Yup didn't need to do anything more than remove the cap, got the fuel pump out and it took about 10 min to install everything. pretty straight forward.
