Default Blackstone Labs Oil Analysis

About a month ago there was a topic somewhere on the forums about oil life and some debate. A member mentioned Blackstone Labs for oil analysis, and I was coming up on my longest oil change I've ever had. Usually I change my oil right at about 3k miles. This time I decided to let it go to 6k or just until the "Maintenance Required" dial on my gauge cluster turned yellow. At 7500 miles it turns red, when Honda recommends the oil to be changed on the stock F22 CL motor. I no longer have the F22 in the car. It was replaced in June of last year with a blue top H23VTEC I bought from a local JDM engine importer.

Engine mileage is unknown, so I guessed and wrote 50k miles on the form that is included in the oil sample kit. Not expecting them to have standards for a JDM H23VTEC motor, under the "notes" section, I told them to compare it to a '99 H22A. I also noted that the motor went through a quart of oil in the 6k mile span. It might have asked that question on the form, but I don't remember.

Anyways, here's what I got. I spent the extra $10 for a TBN report. It lets you know if you can safely lengthen your oil change intervals. They recommended 8k for the next one, but I'll likely change it at 7500. Just so I can use the maintenance dial as a reminder. I have a couple more sampling kits coming so I can check this motor again. I might even test the B18C in my Civic.

Vehicle: 1997 2.2CL (daily driven about 500 miles per week)
Motor: H23VTEC

What oil did you use? You probably will not get much understanding in this forum. Just another boring Honda analysis. The motor seems to be really solid with those numbers. Real easy on the oil.

Blackstone is so so, you can spend an extra money for a better oil anaylsis. I would say Blackstone is good for the money if you suspect a problem with your motor, fuel, coolant, etc..

Yeah, I wasn't looking for much discussion. It is a boring topic. Just wanted to share the results since I've been on these forums for some time and never come across actual data.

I'm pleased with the results though. Bought this motor from an unknown importer and it turned out to be strong. The engine H motors sold me several years ago, burned a quart of oil every week.

I using Mobil 1 (10w30) in the H23 since it's easy to find. I've always ran AmsOil in the B18C, but it's getting harder to buy locally. Napa doesn't keep much stock when they do have it.

I'll look around for some other testing labs.
