R888 as a summer tire for high hp app.
Anyone run an R888 in any size that uses it for street driving? (Or I guess any of the new sticky *** summer tires that have come about recently.)
I have a primarily street driven car making over 500. I dont really want to run a DR thats going to wear out super fast, especially since I had slicks for the track. I just want something that will hook decently and last longer then a DR.
If it hooks from a 50 roll in 3rd I'll be happy

Man dont you listen to what i say?
The R888's are a road race tire with a stiff sidewall..not what you want...
Neo Gens all the way! They cheap too!!
My car would dead hook 3rd gear at full power on a good road.

. The Generals do ok until it hits 500whp lol
The stiff sidewall negates any traction the soft rubber will give you really. It might be ok from a high speed roll like that, but that is it. I spin my sticky hard sidewall tires bad on my AWD car from a stop. For street races I run snow tires. They dead hook 600wtq on the street ha ha.

I need to try some snow tires.. ive head that a few times
Do you have personal experience with a 500whp car with those tires?
Again most of those tires are all low tread ware with stuff sidewalls for cornering.. not what you want.

I just picked up some Slips with Azenis' and my car hates them compared to the ZE 512's. That stiff sidewall just plain sucks for lots of horsepower!
We went 12.6 thsi year on 225 45 16 888, we tried all different combos of using the nitrous in 1st but it didn't like it in to early, but we only got 220whp without and 292 whp with 1st stage.
I have hooked up better on normal street tyres.
I think on the street they would be better once they've got some heat in them, as they get nice and hot when there on a road course.

I have run all of those but the XS for SCCA and run the Star Specs now...they suck for hooking up power. Great for auto x, just won't hook on asphalt and big power.
I dunno,i love the r888's on my evo...dead hooks in every gear....only time they spin is when i launch off the 6500 rpm 2 step with 15+lbs of boost..
The R888's need quite a bit of heat in them to grip well (stems from road race application)
We fitted them to a 300whp 350 lb/ft Turbo FWD Opel Astra OPC (Saturn Astra) and they definately helped
BUT be warned
If the roads are wet - you have your hands full !!!

Yes, top of 4th/5th/6th, 205/50 15. They're no drag radial or even close but they're the best regular performance street tire that i've used. Worked fine in the rain too.

The car was making a little over 500whp in this vid...k20a2 6 speed tranny starting out in 3rd no brake boost. I let out at the top of 5th before i hit the brakes since we hadn't changed the boost tables in 6th yet lol.

May car with Nitto Neo Gens 205/50/15 would dead hook 500+whp in 3rd gear on a good road..
The neo-gens and the falken ze-512's are pretty nice, non drag radial tires. I would look into different sizing more along the lines of 225-50 or possibly 215-55.
Yeah i do realize it was a K series, so shorter ratio trans and more tq.. Ii was just saying my car with no boost by gear would dead hook 500+ in 3rd...
For a cheap tire the neo gens are hard to beat! Im going for 11.50's on street tires this year, with the addition of some boost by gear i think its feasible..

You don't want the R888's. We run those on an Auto-x car I drive when the pavement is going chew the hoosiers too much and they do take a long time to get heat and even when they do we can blow the tires off on an NA MR2 at the line. They corner like a dream though
They work very well, tons of tread on them... the soft sidewall really helps... I sware by them.... Ive gotten about 5-7 other local cars to buy them and all have gone faster at the track haha..

Some people need to listen to Myles. I have the Neo Gens and they do work fine for what they are. I have a buddy that cut some 1.9x 60' on these tires with a K24 swapped EG. My car nor my friends are 500whp cars, but these tires work fairly well for they are, no doubt about that.
ZE-512s suck *****, my car is at about 380hp and does not hook for ****. 3rd gear pull is just bang bang bang bang, 4th is bang bang, and 5th is rpm and mph go up but still not going anywhere; all while normal traffic is walking by me until it finally gets traction (if any) at about 6.5-7k rpm in 5th.
