Valve adjustment cost?
iv been doing my research and noticed that its not extremely difficult to adjust the valves. My valves are ticking on the cover and id like to fix it, but i dont want to risk it and would rather have a pro work on it and not make it worse. Around how much would it cost to get the valves working properly again? rough estimates?

Or, it's around $45 for a nice feeler gauge and a new gasket to do it yourself.
You sure the ticking you're hearing isn't the injectors? My engine clicks like valve ticking, but my valve lash was still correct when checked at 40k miles, and still correct at 70k miles (when I last checked). They've never actually needed any adjustment, but the injectors can be easily heard.
Non-vtec is very easy, there is a special tool for lash adjustment for vtec engines or you can make your own, google it if you need it. $20 feeler gauge and some patience. I also have a tick, checked all the lash tolerances and they were dead on.
Our shop charges $70 + gaskets to check and adjust valve lash for DOHC 4-cyl engines, and $64 + gaskets for a SOHC 4-cyl.
Most engines don't need much in the way of adjustments. Some B-series and J-series heads are susceptible to tightening exhaust valves, which don't make noise but can cause problems if not adjusted.
Some minor ticking is normal, especially on a cold start-up. Another common cause of valvetrain noise is a low oil level . . .
you should def, do it yourself. Learn about how your car works, AND save a TON of money. I just did this for the first time about a month ago and it was very simple. i just google searched it and the cspeed racing write up looks pretty good.

Do people seriously pay that much? Holy crap. Are you sure you aren't thinking of a timing belt service?

That was when I discovered my current preferred shop. They charged $120, which still seems a bit steep for no actual adjustment, but then went and deducted half of that from other work.
Anyway, I'm probably in a somewhat uncommon scenario, living in LA (close enough anyway) and with a condo complex that forbids any automotive work on the property. I've had the retarded old women in the complex call security because I was outside changing a flat tire before...

$120 is about right if they're working on a $100-110/hr labor rate, which isn't uncommon for densely-populated urban areas. Most non-coastal regions in the US have lower rates.
so i think the best bed would be for me to do it myself then i assume... will leaving it alone for a while affect the car much,? its not too loud of a tick and tends to go away as i drive its more on the idle than anything but i dont want to hurt the motor its my dd
