Default 1988 Civic Dx

Hey guys im new to the forum, I have a 1988 civic dx that the number one rod bearing let go. Im in the middle of taking the motor apart. I wanted to know what all i need to do to pull the engine out. Do i have to drop the trans? or what if anything do i need to do with it.

Ive never pulled a little motor like this out. Put a chevy or ford or something like that in front of me i know what all i need to do just not these little things.

Thanks guys

Lewis

the easiest thing to do is pull the motor and trans out together. Take the axle nuts off in the center of the brake rotors. Unbolt the lower ball joints and swing the knuckles out of the way, pull the axles out of the tranny. Unclip the engine wire harness on the drivers side shock tower and loosen the motor mounts. If you know your way around chevys and other cars youll figure it out

Lol ok thanks guys. I got it ready to come out. Other then getting the axles off. What would you guys think of the engine kits off ebay. I found one for 236 to the door. includes pistons and pins, water pump, rings, full gaskets kit, oil pump, timing belt kit, and the bearings. Im not wanting to build more horse just get really good mileage.

Def. easy. Most brolly guys like myself can lift the motor byitself. That plus its really easy to drop as a complete unit like everyone above said you should be fine.
Ive had no problems from ebay kits. Its honda and oem so it will all be cheap. If you were going for performance parts it'd be a different story. I also buy my oem lexus parts from ebay sellers.

Might be worth your time trolling the forums for a complete D15.
They sometimes go for nearly free!

Ok cool ill feel better getting stuff off ebay. Im not a small guy either just dont want to take a chance on dropping it and being out of a motor. Ive thought about buying a used engine. And i have looked around locally and found some but they want a grip for a motor with 150,000 miles on it. i can rebuild it for less then 500 for what they were asking for a used engine.
