Icon3 help with rack and pinion DA integra

whats up everyone. ive got a 90 integra ls and im trying to replace the rack and pinion. ive got the old one out but it was not easy. i had to beat the metal bracing around the hole where the shaft slides through the firewall to get the shaft out of the firewall. then i could not slide the unit like all the instructions say to do, slide all the way to one side drop one side down and slide it out that wasnt happening the shaft was hitting the bracing/frame whatever it is . so i had to take the steering gearbox apart and drop the shaft out then i could finally get the unit out. my problem is trying to get the new one in without taking it apart. has anyone done this? i havent tried installing the new one yet just trying to get some insight from someone who has experience with this.any help will be appreciated!

Default Re: help with rack and pinion DA integra

it is actually quite simple. (I haven't done a DA specifically in a long time but all honda of the era is generally the same)
-take off the outer tie rods
-lower the exhaust behind the donut
-unbolt the column from the *bottom* pinch bolt
-pull the tie rods all the way to the right (passenger)
-lower the left side of the rack while sliding it to the right
-when the gear housing clear, pull the right side back through

there will be some minor diff among cars but that should cover the key points.
