Default Help, gsr hydro tranny problems.

What's up guys. First problem I'm having is my reverse. It's really hard to get it in reverse and when I do get it in, it's even harder to take it out. It feels like it's stuck, I can literally put all my strength into it and it will not budge. I have to keep playing with it until it comes out. Also my 5th gear is hard to put back in after taking it out at around 70mph and up. It grinds and goes in really rough when I do get it back in, this only happens if I'm driving, in 5th already, and take it out of 5th and try to put it back in, not when shifting from 4th to 5th. Im not in high rpms either I'm normally driving and it still does it. That's the best way I can explain my problems with my transmission. Sorry for the long story but any help will be appreciated, thanks.

Change the fluid and report back with how much came out, what it looked like, and what it smelled like.

I just bougt the motor and tranny and put about 4000 miles on it. I changed all fluids before putting the swap in. I didn't start having the reverse problem til a coupe days ago. 5th gear always acted up. But I'll change the tranny fluid again and let you know. Btw I'm clueless on how many miles this swap had, the guy said 68k but I highly doubt that since it came out a 94 gsr.

Update. I went to reverse my car into the driveway to get ready to change the tranny fluid, well after getting it in, I tried to put the cat into neutral and it wont come out of reverse at all now. My tranny is now locked in reverse. I went ahead and drained the fluid, the tranny had enough fluid, looked fine, and didn't smell out of the ordinary. I did notice metal shavings in the fluid though as it was draining. Can it be that the syncro for 5th and reverse took a poop on me? If so, would it cause my tranny to be stuck in reverse(the last gear I was in)? Can that also be the reason why 5th acted up a lot? I can't even get it out of reverse when the car is off.

If the shavings are yellow then they're from a synchro or bushing (not likely).

How is the clutch system (clutch, pressure plate, CSC, CMS)?

I honestly can't remember what color the shavings were, I just spent way too long pulling the tranny out. I will double check tomorrow for sure. As far as the clutch, PP, and flywheel, they all look brand new. The PP is literally still a bright red color of whatever brand it's suppose to be. The "teeth" in the PP are fine, not bent or out of position. The clutch disk is fine, springs are still intact and not damaged, nothing looked broken, plenty of clutch left. I was told that all of it was replaced and just broken in before the swap was pulled. I replaced my CMC about a week ago with a brand new omni-power one, which never gave me any problems. While bleeding the system after the CMC install, the CSC looked and worked fine. The throwout bearing on the shift fork is a little loose though, it's on the shift fork but you can grab the bearing with your thumb and index finger and kind of "wiggle" it back and forth on the shaft. I don't know if that's normal or not? I never heard a whining noise as if it was going bad though. Shift fork is also in fine working condition. So I guess it's something internal?

Check the cylinders for leaks. I had an Omni prototype CMC fail on me and it was only on the car for 6 months or so. Yours could have a problem, not likely, but I'd still check. TOB wiggling on the clutch fork is normal.

But if I had a leak wouldnt it affect all gears? Not just reverse and 5th? I haven't checked yet but I'll update when I do.

A leak would normally cause problems in all gears, but its worth looking into before you yank the trans out (though its a bit late for that).

Ok here's the update. The CMC was fine, no leaks. My buddy let me borrow his ls tranny because I had to have my car running by tomorrow for work. I just got done putting it in and went for a test drive. The car hasn't gave me any problems yet. The ls tranny shifts like butter through all gears. So unfotuanetly I guess the gsr tranny has an internal problem. Thanks for all the help though aquafina.

Will it come out of gear now that it's out of the car? And the red pp prob means and xtd clutch kit and if that's the case yank that junk up out if there

Unfortunately no, its still locked. How long do those xtd clutch kits usually last? Im trying to get a b16 or gsr tranny asap because this ls one feels like poo but if that clutch isn't worth having than I'll order a new clutch kit first.

Probably cheaper to repair your GSR trans than to buy another one that might have problems as well.

XTD clutches last about 10-15,000 Miles, Thats how long mine lasted. I will NEVER buy another XTD in my life, worst clutch ive ever had, Get a Excedy OEM replacement,

Yea, I found out today that someone at work will fix it for me for 100 bucks. I just have to buy the parts. He's gonna show me how to open it up thursday and I'll finally get to find out whats wrong with it. So probably gonna go that route now.

Thanks for the heads up, looks like I know what I'm spending my next couple paychecks on lol.
