j1 Transmission, possible LSD! need opinion
I just bought a J1 transmission and the guy claimed it was LSD. According to my research the J1 never came with LSD, BUT when i look through the hole where the axles go through, its a straight-through hole with no "bar" or "pin" in it, which means it is an LSD, correct? It looks like there is a smaller gear in the middle instead of the "bar". Its nothing like i've ever seen before.

Pics? If you can't see through its not an LSD (unless its a Wavetrac which will have a solid plate when you try to look through.
It's an option in a lot of JDM transmissions.
Pros: It's an LSD
Cons: Doesn't work well, weaker than a helical LSD, permanently turns into an open diff if it gets hot (at that point it needs to be replaced)

could easily permanently turn to a spool too...seen that happen to a number of older diffs in jdm cable b series trannies.
No way to tell really, it has a sealed center section.
You would need a FD from either a GSR/ITR, LS, or B16. GSR/ITR for a B18C LSD and LS/B16 for a B16A/B18A or B LSD.

Is there any difference in the material/strength of these gears compared to that of an s1 or a1 integra LS transmission? I keep going through 3rd and 5th gears on stock motor power. I'm doing a mild boost setup in the near future too, b16a built on 15-20psi, would the stock j1 be able to handle this? If not what gearset do you reccomend?
I'm searching the same question too. Trying to figure out if an OEM helical LSD will fit in a cable trans. Don't really want to convert to hydro, but looks like i might have to.
The shafts (main and counter) have a larger OD and the gears have a larger ID on the 92+. Both are smaller on the pre 92.
