Ok so i have the old school 1982 honda civic 2 door hatch.(shown below) and im thinking of getting some different rims for my car. currently it just has the tiny 12" steel rims on it. the rims im thinking of putting on it are the 14" Watanabe r type rims.(shown below) do you think these kind of rims will look on my car??? also what size an width do you think would look best on this car. or if you know of any other rims out there thatll look good let me know. but so far i like the watanabe rims the best.

 

14x6 should work pretty well on your car with a +35 or+40 offset.. i wouldn't go too much wider..

 

That car has 12" wheels? I thought the second gen Civics started using 13"'s.

 

ya i thought that to but according to my tires the car is sitting on some tiny little 12" wheels lol

What is the lug pattern on your car? Is it 4 x 100 . I was thinking for some reason these year accords had a funky lug pattern.

 

For my 83 wagon, I'm currently running some 15x7 Rota RB's with a 35+ offset if I remember correctly with 195/50/15's. I think they look good on the car and ride nicely....

I found a cool set of 13's that I was going to run, but when I heard Enkei was bringing back the 92's I got pumped, so I'm going to run those instead. Now I have to debate on wether to get 15x7's or 15x8. The one thing I can tell you is think about your tire size before you order your wheels because the price of a nice set to fit those wheels might be more than you're thinking.

92's should be pretty sweet!

luckily in 1980 honda switched to the 4x100 bolt pattern making wheels A LOT easier for you guys to find wheels compared to the 72-79 first gens which were 4x120.

Rutspeed; i'd worry about the 8's hitting stuff. they'd be close on my 91 and MUCH closer on my 86. i'd be worried about them rubbing the control arms without spacers, then you'd need to pull the fenders or roll them pretty hard after adding spacers. just something to think about. it's not as easy as just throwing them on..


cf-48's are the shizz on these cars though.. :

oh ya i didnt think of checking tire prices lol oops thanks ill go ahead an do that and future plans? ya i got a bunch but im real short on cash for now but in the future i want to get a roll cage in it. repait it (i dislike its current color lol) im thinking maybe a blue ish silver?? swap in a B16 or B18 (thats more like a dream than a plan) and a custom suspension. so ya those r some plans/ ideas im thinking. do you got any ideas of what i should do

ya im glad honda did that with the bolt patterns lol and ive seen those enkei 92 rims and idk i dont really care for those rims. reason is cause for some reason when ever i see those rims they remind me to much of lowrider rims lol but i guess thats just me lol oh and ive never seen those cf-48 rims before and let me say those look pretty darn good on these cars so im gonna look into those

the rota beats are knockoffs of the CF-48's.. good luck finding an original set. wasn't hard to do about 10 years ago when no one knew what they were and thought they were ugly..

 

Ya i noticed how hard it is to find those cf-48 rims cause i tried ebay but couldnt find very much at all lol all i found was like one rim only but ive never heard of the rota beats so thanks for that info ill look into those

 

The CF-48's were made by Mugen and offered from the Honda dealerships here in the USA for 1st gen crx's. Not many people know about that but I see random cars driving around from time to time with these rare wheels and people don't even know it. They originally came with aero-disk plastic covers that were designed to help vent and cool the brakes.

 

Thanks for the info on the max (roughly) offset and wheel/tire width that can be used on these cars. I have a 1980 Civic 1500 Wagon and was contemplating what, if any, aftermarket wheels could be used.

 

It's good to see a picture of my car still floating around! I've had the CF-48's on it since the late 80's (when they were still available new). I've even got the unused aero covers for them.
I just wish there was a better selection of 13" tires available!

 

my 81 civic wagon running on 15x8 +10, w/ 195/45 it fit perfectly with a fender flair.

 

So, are my rims 4 - 100? = 81 Civic 1300.

Also, is it a cvcc? how do I check?

I believe your engine is a CVCC.

 

I was told to assess the amount of barrels in the carb - 2 or 3 = makes a difference if it's cvcc or not...

Unless your car came from a market outside of North America, it would be a CVCC, if I understand correctly.

 

Wasnt that at a time when the tax on companies that were importing cars had some relation to wheel size? They were sending them over here on 12s and then some of them got 13s on arrival. Dont quote me on that because Im not 100 percent certain though. In 83, I know the motorcycle tax went up if the bike was over 700cc, thats why for 1984, the Shadow went to 700cc instead of the 750cc it was in 1983. Anyway, thats the end of my rambling...haha.

I did my water pump last week and learned (the hard way) my engine and possibly the whole car is a Canadian model. Some subtle differences vs US models = like the water pump being 4-5mm too wide... huh... Still North American so CVCC it is!!

Don't want to hijack the thread, so I'll ask about wheels now - Would anyone know where to get a set of original rims or something close to it either 12" or 13" near Vancouver BC -- No, the boneyards are dry as a popcorn fart of anything close to this year for any parts.

 

Not all cars in NA were CVCC. I have '82 Canadian model hatchback and it has 1.3L EN1 engine.
Check sticker under the hood, there should be engine indication and/or post photo of engine here and on 1st generation civic forum.
