This mod cost around $6 and allows you to keep the functionality (JDM black dipsticks are shorter, thus reducing the accuracy of the oil level reading) of your dipstick while giving it the JDMness that everyone wants.

Why I used Plasti Dip? Plasti Dip allows you to peal off once dried (as it is a rubber coating not paint) so this mod is reversible. Also, Plasti Dip leaves a nice texture b/c it is a rubber coating and not spray paint.

Step 1:
Purchase some Plasti Dip paint from your local auto parts store. The cost should be anywhere from $6-$8.


Step 2:
Tape off all parts of the dipstick up to the actual handle portion and clean with some degreaser. Some people remove the green bands that are in the first pic to paint the entire dipstick. I do not advise doing that b/c if the paint chips or flakes it could go into your engine.


Step 3:
Hit the dipstick with one light coat covering the entire area. Wait 30-45 mins and hit it with a heavy coat. Repeat the heavy coats until the desired outcome is achieved.

Thats so JDM y0! jk, good thinking!! I think I'm gonna dye mine with Rit dye so I can do the whole handle and I dont have to worry about peeling! Look it up on youtube, its used in R/C cars, so if you find a vid about dying a chassis or wheels, thats what you'll need to do!

OP, not trying to steal your thunder, just providing another alternative

 

If you clean the dip stick handle with brake cleaner,70%, alcohol, to remove the oils and don't touch it after your done, dry it with a clean rag and just spray it with the plastic penetrating spray, it will not come off, eventually it might wear off.

You could also use a clear coat to help protect it from coming off.

The main thing is it has to be free of oil to stick well.
