Icon2 D16a6 Tranny question

Ok so I'm about to do a swap with my d15b 4 speed tranny and I have a a d16a6 that jumped time that i am working on building and so I took the tranny off to put it on the engine stand and when I did the main shaft has a metal ring around it at the end and it was broke. Its NOT the throw out bearing. Ill post pics if no one knows what it is but right now im at college so I can't till the weekend.

yeah it looks like it holds the shaft tight it the engine like a bearing. I know the throw out bearing is the like 2 inch round bearing with closer to the tranny and is actually touches the tranny. The part I am talking about only touches the shaft and engine and is the size of the shaft and does not go over the splines.

It's the flywheel pilot bearing.

It sits in the center of the flywheel. It shouldn't pop out of the flywheel, it's pressed into it. When you remove your original transmission inspect the pilot bearing thats in the flywheel and make sure it spins freely.

So is it the input shaft bearing or the flywheel pilot bearing or are they the same thing I will post pics Friday as soon as I get home.... it was broke in half and only half was on the tranny shaft when I pulled the tranny. It sits tight against the input shaft on the very end.

input shaft bearing is inside the trans. that your looking at is proly the pilot bearing that sits in the middle of the flywheel. sounds like thats whats broken here

Ok so yes it is in the middle of the flywheel and not inside the tranny. a new one will just go in no problem? And would there be any other damage from it breaking

yes. that piece is a broken part of the pilot bearing that sits in the midle of the flywheel. just remove the other pieces from the flywheel and replace it. its not very expensive

Your transmission is an 89 and you need to replace the pilot bearing, throwout bearing, but if you are Getting a new clutch. the kit will come with everything you need if its from like from advance auto or whatever

89, 90, 91... doesn't matter.
If either of your transmission were an 88 you would have a bit of an issue.

Exactly what I meant by 'issues'.

Previous poster was frowning that OP may have an 89 trans rather than the 90/91 he stated.
My point is that it doesn't matter if he's using an 89, 90, or 91 since all use the same parts.

Ok I had read somewhere on here about tranny's and the differences I know that the 1988 has like 20 splines and will not fit a 1989-91 engine. I also thought that the 1989 had a different spline count from the 1990-91. Or was it just that the clutch was different.
