Default How to tell which engine?

I will be taking a look at an '88 CRX this week. It has a 1.6L engine but apart from that, the owner doesn't know much about it. The chassis has 300k miles on it so I doubt it's the original engine.

How do I tell what type of engine it has? Is there anything I should look for before buying it?

Here is a pic:

and whats up with that filter on the FPR? (fuel pressure regulator)
and look like the oil filter was relocated to the front, bottom left corner of the pic.

Sorry lunalink but I don't understand what you just said. Mind explaining a little? I hope it's not bad.

I found it on CL and it might be my first car.

Why would they relocate the oil filter? Would it be worth it to put it back in its original spot, and why?

Some people do that to turbo builds. They relocate it to cool down the oil system.
They sell a kit actually.

Well that’s what it looks like to me, but it might be something else. Either way that piece isn’t stock and plain and simple looks garbage.

Ask him what that part is, along with the filter up by the brake booster.

It could be converted back to stock, right?

Actually do you mind circling the parts your are talking about?

Online pic edit -> http://www.lunapic.com/editor/

I don't think he knows based off of what he told me about the car over the phone. I will ask in person when I see him, I just need to know where the parts are located.

Besides these 2 things, would this be good deal for $1.5k?

LOL

The guy just deleted the ad. Its white in color, the body is perfect. If he puts it back up I'll post pics. He's probably just top-posting it.

Extras include intake and oversized brakes...the only con is no A/C (I made another thread), that's gonna be a b*tch when summer rolls around (105 F... how fun!!)

Edit;

Will do, but I'd pay what he's asking. It might go like this;

"OK, will you take $1,200, CASH, right now?"

"My ad said I was pricing it to sell, so no"

"Fine, here's $1500!"

*runs & hugs car*

LOL These are not that common around here. I've been waiting for months.

Exhibit A:

the boonies, yeah you're right..
just ask him if he's firm on the price and whats the lowest he'll take.
but if you'll pay the 1.5k go for it

I've sold a lot of stuff so I know what it feels like to get a lower offer, but I'll do it anyways.

And you know you're in the boonies when the houses have wheels on them!!

Thanks for the help

EatMyVTEC :]... ... Hell of a deal!!

Jdmrustbucket that's what I was thinking. I know they might pull a trick themselves... the old "I have another guy who wants to buy for asking price" gig but it's worth a try. Maybe I can get the guy to compromise.

Is there any way to see how many miles the engine has?

When are you picking it up? I think that he will definately Take $1,200. When I bought my 1 owner mint hatch the guy wanted $1,500. I pulled $1,050 in cash and he took it. So you could go lower, my man. But as you said they're really rare where you live so.. See how it goes.

Haha sorry to hear that, 1.5k for a car with no rust is an INSANE deal where i live. ANY ef is worth 3k-5k if there is no rust, you should see the garbage that sells for 1.5k where i live...

P.S. stay away from that yellow POS

Of course, I hate riced out cars!

I just put a WTB ad on Craigslist. Maybe someone who's on the fence about selling theirs will bite

Hey just to show you guys what I'm dealing with.. I set up an RSS feed to show me Honda CRX's on sale. Check it out;

From there about 5 are worth looking at but are slightly out of my budget.
