96 accord h22a swap..help
hi im new on here, ive been trying to find a topic about what im asking but no luck. we have a 96 accord ex sedan, came automatic. the transmission went out and the stock f22b1 has close to 250k miles on it and was having some oil in the dizzy issues before the tranny went out, were getting anxious to swap it for a h22a and get some extra power and miles from it, the body is super clean and we now have the money to order our engine swap, but after one topic i read on another forum said that switching from usdm to jdm was a pain and im not very good when it comes to wiring, we plan on using hasport mounts i wanna know if our car already being vtec makes the swap easier? it being automatic what kind of wiring issues i may run into? how bad is making an auto trans into a manual? i need to know since my car is obd2 should we get the obd2 h22a or the obd1 h22a? what will make this easy? should i just try to find a shop or person that has done this before? were new to the honda world but me and my wife love them, they just keep breaking down on us, but we keep getting dogged out ones and now we wanna have a nice one for once. thanks for any feedback.
If you have no experience, I'd leave it to someone who knows what their doing because one easy task can turn ugly if you don't know what you're doing.
As for your questions, the H22 swap from USDM to JDM is easy; you've been informed wrong. Having VTEC does make the swap easier cause then you wont have to wire up VTEC for the engine. Converting from Auto to Manual isn't as bad as you think and will be alot easier with the engine out so you can run the clutch fluid lines across and to the passenger side so it can get to the transmission. I'd get a JDM OBD2 H22A just so things can go smoothly as your car is already OBD2 then later down the road you can convert it to OBD1 if you want so you can get the engine a conservative tuned & for more power.
I recommend you search up on here about the H22 swap, because there's a whole bunch of threads on here that are very helpful. Good Luck!

I'm also considering doing a h22a swap. I've been doing much research and I'm hearing mixed inputs on ecu's to use. Some suggest to use jdm prelude ecu and some say euro h22a ecu. Any truth to that? My next question is in regards to the transmission. I read on a forum and they were discussing about using a f22b1 manual transmission with the h22a. They suggest using the h22a torque converter and flex plate combo. What about for the automatic tranny? Could I possibly get the torque converter and use it in my swap? Thanks for the information.
