Default New Here; 2002 Accord Question...

I have a 2002 Accord EX Coupe with auto trans. I find it annoying to have to step on the brake pedal every time I want to take it out of "Park". Is there a way to disable this function (without doing any damage)?...

its a safety mechanism. most newer auto cars have it. either get over it or buy a manual.

Do you really want the car to go backwards every time you shift out of park? What are you going to do once it is in reverse, slam it into drive without stopping? At some point you're going to use the brake, it might as well be when you shift out of park.

There is an override for this, it is intended to be used when the electronic switch isn't working. On the shifter bezel, to the left of the Park setting, is a small rectangular plug. Remove that plug and put a key in the hole, the shifter will move without using the brake. Your owners manual probably has instructions on this.

Note that this safety exists for a reason. If you disable it and damage something, please don't say you weren't warned. Oh, and be sure to post pictures of the carnage.

on the shifter assembly, There is a lockout mechanism on the front, right(passenger side) area. It will be a white piece of plastic the rotates to allow the shifter to go into gear. Remove it or find a way to wedge it open. Guess that should do the trick.

You would need to remove the center console to get to it.
