For those that change tires at events...
What do you do to prevent snapping a wheel stud? I change out my tires at every event, to run the Azenis in autox. However, upon repeated changes, the wheel studs will become stubborn, and further 'wrenching' on it will snap the stud. Does anyone recommend some sort of 'anti-seize' on the studs? I currently don't torque the wheels down to spec, that may be a big part of it. Thoughts?
Yes apply anti-sieze to the wheel studs. And more importantly BUY A TOURQE WRENCH!!! The over tightening of the wheels may contribute to rotor warping and wheel stud failure.
also make sure your lugnuts match the wheel you are using. if you have aftermarket wheels, youll need conical lugnuts. no need to get blingin kokyugen, just $30 set from gorilla or mcgard is fine from any wheel shop.
just a little dab of antisieze is fine. and yeah, any self respecting auto enthusiast must own at least ONE torque wrench!

I find its also good to wipe down the thread and make sure there is no debris/dirt/rubber/etc in the threads. Apply anti-sieze and you should be fine.
Hello Ryan,
I swap to Victoracers before every race and drive them to the track. I do as others said, apply some antiseize on the studs. No need to reapply after every use either. I've only apply it once at the beginning of the season.
Torque wrench is a must. Over-torquing is the single biggest reason of stud failures. Good points about the conic lugnuts. Also, make sure not to get any antiseize on the hubs...

Anti sieze
Proper torque
...and like mom said, always keep your nuts clean
. Seriously, don't drop them in sand, dirt or gravel, especially with sticky antisieze on them. Take care of dem nutz yo.

I was breaking studs too (about 2 per year) until these guys mentioned anti-seize. Make a huge difference in smoothness of getting the lugs on and off. It's not a struggle anymore it's a smooth progression from loose to tight and tight to loose.
Also
about torque wrench. Prolly one of the most important things in my tool box besides my sockets and cordless drill.
Also another word - I put the lugs on by hand 2-3 turns and do the rest with the cordless drill. Then torque them down with my torque wrench.

Don't mean to be a post *****, but does anyone know if Kosei K1's can use the stock lugnut? I have with no probelms but someone reciently told me I can't....
you CAN use acorns on conical bore wheels, but its just not desirable, theres nothing preventing you from mismatching them. the surface area just doesnt match up and concentrates the load and either ends up tweaking the nut and/or the wheel seat.
you can check by putting some gel or grease on the wheel seat and putting the nut in the wheel seat and pulling it out and seeing how much of the surface area on the nut touched the wheel. just clean off the crap after youre done.

I have used my stock GSR lugs on the K1s though when I forgot all my lugs at home and was in the middle of putting on the K1s with V700s when I realized I had no lugs! I tried the stock Acura ones and they worked fine. I raced with them on. I didn't leave them on for too long though.. I didn't notice any problems. The GSR lugs are also smaller and lighter than the ones Tirerack sent me with the K1s.

usually with hondas, it is the crossthreading that occurs when taking lugs off after an over-torque happens. Anything over about 90 torque will cause this. The front studs are a bitch to replace due to having to remove most of the suspension to be able to press the hub out. Most of the time a new bearing is needed then too. (hate the design that honda did on stud replacement for the front!!!) The rears can be replaced with hand tools by taking the wheel off. USE A TORQUE WRENCH!!!! also double check after each session too. Race on!
