JDM front end- The truth about T bars
I know over the years there has been a lot of confusion about what does and doesn't fit, and what your options are. I thought i'd take some time to go over some options for newbies and others unsure of what the story is.
This thread will cover 88-91 civic hatches and crx's. Just to touch on what is actually needed for a front end conversion, the bare minimum parts needed are....
- hood
- front bumper with mounting bracket in behind it
- signal lamps
So what about the T bar?
1) One budget way is to just reuse your original bar and shim it out forwards, and also grind out the hood latch opening and bolt mounting holes in a more forward position. Here are a couple of examples

2) Another budget way it to reuse your original T bar and bend it forward so it is in kind of a mild U shape (smile shape)

3) Here's where info gets tricky
There are TWO Styles or front T bar for facelifeted models. Many, not "all" EF8/9 front ends
have a T bar that fits exactly like our usdm part, with the exception of a little extra air vent off to the side. You would still have to mod the front a little bit to make it work. This is what a typical SiR t bar looks like

As some know, and others don't, the facelifted model hatchbacks and crx came in many many models EF6/7 and so on........cool thing is the the chassis is the same as our usdm cars, so it bolts right on with a front end conversion, no mods needed. You can see the mounting position of the hood latch is much more forward to meet up wi the longer hood

Here is a funny example of an EF8 t bar that came in, and it still has the hood latch mounted more forward like other non SiR models

here's a great pic side by side between the one you want, and the stock usdm style

Here's an old HT thread regarding these bars too, just no more pictures. One of the reasons i'm writing up a new one

I will be coming back to add to and refine this thread a bit shortly, stay tuned, and feel free to ask any questions

Here is a good pic of the original of the t bar that came with my EF8 front end. Like mentioned earlier, aside from the extra little air vent, it's exactly the same fitment as the usdm model....this is why i sourced out the EF6 bar
