Default Overheating when parked

This is very strange to me.... Last night i was sitting in my car which is a 99 accord 4dr 2.3L. The temp gauge was reading like the car was overheating. Then when i started driving the temp went back to normal. It seemed it only did this when the car was running while it was parked. What could this mean? The Thermostat is going bad or is it the water pump? The car has just reach 100K so i know that its going to need the 100k tune up. Ive owned 4 hondas and have never seen any of them do this until now. Any Ideas???

Is the coolant fan coming on when your sitting there overheating? If it isn't it's either the fan motor, the relay, or the ECT sensor.

If I remember correctly the fan should come on momentarily after the car has been idling. Im talking maybe 3-5 min after sitting, right? Also the ECT would throw a check light if it was bad, cause i have no light. Ill start small, listen for motor to turn on first then move to relay then sensor.

To check the fan motor: Disconnect the connector. Apply battery positive to one terminal and ground to the other. As soon as you connect the second wire the fan should come on if it's working. * Doesn't matter which way the wires are connected as the fan will just spin the other way.
