Default LSD in GSR Help

So im attempting to put an LSD in my 98 GSR. I was wondering if i could get some advice on the procedure. More specifically on getting the specs right and how to check if its right because as ive heard so far its not just a throw it in and go type situation. Thanks for any help.

Yes you may have to start shimming and adding washers. I suggest you leave it up to a pro if you are scared and do not want to mess anything up.

There are great youtube videos as sideways said. Evans tuning did a couple videos on the process. I think they made 2 videos. The first being disassembley and the second being re-assembley. Both very well done.

I followed this to do mine.
One thing I didn't do at first was switch to type r bearings, make sure to do that and save yourself the money. Good luck.

wow thanks everyone! Do you mind me asking why to switch to type R bearings? will they blow out? or just wear faster?

It has to do with the gsr bearings being measured with preload rather than clearance, nothing with the performance or wear of the bearings.

So i tried to measure the preload and it is out of spec. Its way to loose. So your saying if i used the GSR Diff bearing my preload would have been closer to spec?

The only reason I suggested switching the bearings is for the ease of measuring the clearance between the diff and the case. I didn't have a tool to measure preload.

If it is out of spec you should need to order a different shim from Acura to put it in spec.

Yea i figured. What a bummer. With that tool this would be so easy. without it its annoying trying to measure with homemade tools.

Yeah, I started to make a tool and then found that article and did it the other way.

I finally got it in and used an inch pounds dial torque wrench and set the preload to 19 inch pounds. Another tech told me that was too tight for a used bearing. What do you guys think? My source said 18.6-22.4 Inch pounds but didnt specify if that was for a used or new bearing

Why not use the b16/ls diff bearings...? No preloads and all u have to get is a properly sized shim from the stealership wich is um 14$. This is what i followed when i put in a lsd into my gsr trans.....http://www.xm-parts.com/articles/hgear/gear.htm just like brown dx posted. Follow how he does it. Its simple. Dont be scared to try it. I did it..took my time and i have an lsd gsr with ls 5th gear trans in my car.
