how to squeeze an extra 40 whp out of a b20vtec?
ok, so i got my vtec head on my car 2 weeks ago, the build is a 2000 civic si, stock b20z block, stock z pistons, stock gsr head, not worked at all, 93 Gsr cams, fidanza 7.5lb flywheel, stock intake air box etc. but i do have a 1st gen skunk2 intake manifold ported to 68mm, the throttle body is stock gsr not ported, b16 trans
I got it dynoed last week and it made 160whp 130 tq with the Factory manifold and cat.converter and stock exhaust. im having exhaust put on it as soon as i get some extra money but i would like to know what else i can do to get an extra 40whp using stock parts. im not gonna tear down the block or do any porting and polishing on the head or anything but i want to see 200whp the next time i have it tuned.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks in advance.

Biggest cam you'll be able to use is itr's otherwise you'll be smashing valves
Get a bigger TB, tuned header, injectors, and get it tuned on a s300 if you can

The engine needs to flow much easier. Your stock air box is restricting it. Not sure what exhaust you have but IMO 3" will do well. Spend the Money and have a reputable company port the head. Header... Once again, buy one from a company that actually builds them.
Have someone who knows what they are doing tune it. It may be a little more expensive now. But you will only have to do it once if you do it right.

00-01 ITR or CTR cams, RMF Rep Header or JDM ITR 4-1 Header.
These are cheaper parts that will help you gain some more whp.
40whp is a lot to gain from just stock parts.

ur not going to see 200 whp since u cant put bigger cams then ctr try using rmf narrow headers tb and a 2 1/2 exhaust ur power should go up but i highly doubt 200 mabe 180 if you get a good tunner
I would start with different pistons (RS ITR slugs) before I poured any money into anything else, and put rod bolts on those rods. That alone should get you in the 200whp area with some ITR cams.
ive got a hytech replica 2.5" header here, im just waiting to get the money up for an exhaust.
ive been wondering this but why do i need a huge 3" intake tube when my throttle body is only 2" or so wide stock? at the end im only sucking in the same amount of air i would be with a stock intake tube right?

Also that header is restricting you. For a B20V AT LEAST use the "big tube" hytech replica. That motor needs to breathe. That header was intended for 1.6 and stocker 1.8 motors and on a 2.0 its like sucking syrup through a straw.
to the op,
another fyi i dont know howmany people would reccomend it but im sure a few of us have done it at least once, you can change your pistons out without removing the block from your car. if youre down to put the effort in doing so. i would highly reccomend getting some rsmachine itrs. it will make a night and day difference as far as power is concerned
Dstappity DO NOT listen to the morons telling you to put in bigger cams
They obviously have no experience with this, you will smash your valves into your pistons if you put anything bigger than itr cams without work to the block
Get a good tuned header, hondata thermal gasket, bigger TB, bigger injectors, and a tune on a s300 will get you to your goal
again DO NOT put bigger cams then ITRs and I wouldn't recommend changing your pistons in the car, you want to do it in a clean area where dust and debris won't get into your engine

Why is this. I was told that i could use a set of Bisimoto (near race) cams in my b20-vtec. I have a b16 head(pnp'd) and I was going with rs 12.0-1's. I was told this by a pretty reputable tuner as well.
Because the valve reliefs on the b20 pistons are not big enough there is no p2v clearance
Replacing the pistons is the only way to do this without losing compression
Your tuner is right but you need the pistons before you think of a bigger cam
And its VTEC not VTECH junkie!

WHOA you have alot of reading and learning to do. A 3" intake with a BPi stack will put just about any off the shelf intake on the market to shame. Do some searching around on the topic and see what you come up with.

the header i have is the big tube hyt. rep. one.
as i said in my op, im not changing pistons or having the head ported, and im not going to be using aftermarket internal engine parts, the goal is to use oem parts, with everything the way it is on the inside of the engine with the exception of cams and make 200whp
i know that ITR's will be the biggest cams i can run, i don't want ones that are any bigger even if i did have the pistons for them because this is my daily driver
i was told that the stock b series injectors are good for borderline 200hp..

gas mileage of the stockers for one reason, im not sure though how much the mileage is affected by the aftermarket ones anyways.
Reliability= reason 2,, proven reliability, would love to see a set of aftermarket cams with 100k miles on them at least, lol

If its tuned right you wont notice THAT much of a difference. MAYBE a 1-3mpg loss, depends how hard you are on it. Aguy in my area has a 225whp NA GSR and it still gets 30mpg highway and 24ish city.

If you read anything I've said I've told you how to get power without changing internals
My friend is gettin 196 with stock slugs and itr cams, but he also has the higher comp b20z.
