Default Knock Sensor Location LS-V

I picked up an LS-vtec to replace my GSR

And i feel really stupid asking this, but i cant find the knock sensor!!
I know the B1 didnt come with one, but i would think they would have put one on because this motor cam out of a running car, with no CEL's.

Any info would be awesome!!

Thanks

You dont need one. Put it in and dont worry about it. Just "detunes" the ECU anyways

You can't just throw any chipped ecu into it, it has to be programmed with the knock sensor eliminated

Throw it in and go talk to a tuner

Tap your power steering mounting hole if not using it and put it there.

That would cause the ecu to retard his timing constantly
Better to just eliminate it or put it in the correct spot

So i found a guy to chip my ecu, and to burn me a chip.
When he opened it up he found that my ECU had been tampered with before and the board was burned.
He is going to try and repair it.
We will see what happens.

Anything special you should look for/do when not running a knock?

Depends on how stout you've built your bottom end. If you rev too high and it starts knockin it won't retard timing and it'll be easier to blow it. Just don't beat on it recklessly and keep a ear out for wrapping/knocking in the engine

Best way to hear it is give it a slight rev to around 3k and listen for it as it drops rpms. Being semi-new to engine internal work, I find myself constantly checking for it just in case it does I can tear it apart and throw in new bearings without scorring the crank

They are, espcially since we mod them. Any little vibration sets them off

But i picked it up from the guys house, so if i have any issues i will come back and f#$*k Him up.

soo, what is safe operating rpms? is 91 Octane enough for an all stock internals B1 bottom end with GSR head?

Most people would say 8k...ish depends on the person.
I've had idiots say they rev their ls's to 9k no problem but there ain't no power up there anyway

I usually keep my ls bottom ends under stock rev limit think its 7.8k??

Id look into arp rodbolts and a block girdle so you can at least rev it up to 8.5 and see the high end power from the vtec head

And you should be ok on 91 with a good tune

I took my bone stock b20v to 7800rpm. I would stay below 8k if you are not tuned or have upgraded rod bolts.

Will the gsr block girdle drop into the ls block? What do I need to replace at the same time? I have a girdle on the shelf so im thinkin about doing that!

No you need a aftermarket girdle for the ls

I belive you can only use a gsr girdle if you swap to a gsr crank

false. you can use the gsr brace if you're willing to modify either the brace or main caps. the crank in use does not come in to play for something like this. plenty of info available on this topic; search function is your buddy.

whether the brace provides any useful advantage for a moderate street build is also debatable.

If its just a mild mild street Build, then its not worth it right?

How much am i going to gain from installing the girdle?
200rpm? 400rpm?

Id stick with jus doing the arp rod studs

And the aftermarket ls girdles are cheap enough no need to hack up the inside of your engine

The motor is all together right now.
and hopefully going in this weekend.

But we will see.

I dont have the time to pull it apart to replace it with ARP Rod studs.
But yes, i realize it is the safest option.
I will just burn a chip for the safest rpm.

So you guys think that 8,200 is a safe Redline for LSvtec? 8,000?
