Default How do I check timing on megasquirt

I am running a megasquirt ecu in my del sol, I can hook up my laptop to it, but not sure how I can check my timing. I am unsure whether my timing is off or if I have a misfire, wanting to try to rule this out before I spend money on a distributor. Anyone know how? I have installed Megatune, TunerStudio MS, MegaLog Viewer.

I've never had megasaquirt on a Honda, but I have had it on two vastly different Celicas...

I was running MSn'S (Megasquirt and Spark) on both of my cars, and with that, there was an ignition timing "gauge" on the main window. What flavor of software are you running? You should be able to modify what "gauges" are being displayed, if that one is not present. Also, the timing it shows will probably be the value added to the base timing (if your base timing is 10* BTDC and the gauge shows *10, it's probably actually *20.) I was also running the Ford EDIS, and it was a bit funky like this...

If all of your timing information (for ignition AND FUEL) is coming from one sensor and everything else, including your fuel bins and RPM is not acting funky (jumping around or off), then you probably just have some messed up timing and/or fueling values which is making it fart out.

Also check rev/boost limits. If they're set too low, they'll kick in and mess you up.

BTW, how ARE you getting your signals from the distributor, ie. what signal(s?)? I'd love to hear the deets of your set up, since I have a spare megasquirt kicking around and want to kick my Hondata to the curb, since those boners won't support an older staged system...

If none of this makes sense, let me know what software you're running and I'll poke around in it...I need to get back into megasquirt!

Megatune is what will show my gauges. I got my problem fixed it was a misfire. But from the dizzy there is an external ignition control module 2blade 5 blade off of a GM. Then a cord off of the megasquirt that chills in my glove compartment that I hook into my laptop. It is inside my stock ecu case also. I've enjoyed it quite a lot. Would like to figure out how to tune on it. I bought the car with it on there but had always wanted to get a megasquirt haha.

Hi, I have two Megasquirt units that I use on Honda GoldWings. One is fuel only, the second is fuel and spark control. There are number of Megasquirt setups. I suggest you join the Mega forums, down load the manuals, and ask questions there. Membership, software, info is all no charge. try www.msefi.com for the basic site, at the top of the page is a list of all the different setups. Should you be located near Compton Air Port, Compton, Ca. You would be welcome to visit our Hanger and see our race bikes. We are forming a new race team for Bonneville SpeedWeek.
Thanks

Switch from Megatune to Tunerstudio, there are a lot of tools when you register it for logging the actual triggers. It's quite handy for diagnosing problems with misfires.
