Hey everone i have a 89 civic and i wanna remove my cluster to make room for gauges and its a t/s and sfwd car. My question is how will the vtec, 2 step, or anti lag work without some way to know the speed. I talked to a couple people. one said wire a electronic vss straight to the ecu. another said i could use the abs sensor on a rear disc setup and wire that in. whats my best option and will either work. thanks
Dismantle you gauge cluster and pull the speedometer out of it. Zip tie it to somewhere under the dash and plug in the cable from the trans to it. There are two electrical posts coming out just under the cable plug. One is a vss signal, one is a ground. Trace the traces on the back of the cluster to see which is which
Left is ground, right is vss now that I think about it. Ground to a piece of metal under the dash and run the vss post to the wire thats already in the dash

LOL. Im with Paul. ****, I was gonna consider just putting my cluster somewhere tucked behind the dash, and put a Tunerview RD1 in the cluster's place. But I like the idea of just having to hide the speedometer back there, and rewire the two pins.
Good call Paul. When it comes time, youll have to help me with that.

JFYI: i hate to tell ya that im not a noob and thats why i wasnt listening to ur idea of rigging the speedo behind the dash. all it would take is one hard shift or a nice bump in the road on my 18ft car trailer and that falls or looses its ground and ull loose the round or get to the track and the cars not running right. Plus im not doing everthing else on my car to make it nicer and presentable for potential sponsers and yeah have under my dash rigged like a ticking time bomb waiting for me to loose a round of racing that will make or break a potential sponser or possably blow my motor.

I was gonna say. The cable has a clip. Thats why it doesnt "pop loose from hitting bumps" in the road as a factory setup.
And if youre looking to make your car nicer, and have sponsors, and blah blah blah, why are you putting a million analog gauges in your dash, and having to eliminate the gauge cluster anyways? You could always get a Tunerview or similar, and not need one of those gauges.
