Default SoCal Outlaw Shootout: May 29-30, Fontana, CA

L.A. Outlaw FWD Invasion
May 29-30 California Dragway, Fontana, CA

** This is a pre-event, discussion thread for the race before we finalize some of the rules, payouts, etc. A formal thread for finalized rules, information will follow once everything is all agreed upon **

We’ve been in talks with a Socal event called L.A. Invasion the past year or so in letting us have a couple lanes to do our own Shootout type gamblers race. Some of you may be familiar with the event since I have seen some Hondas do testing at their event the last couple years. Here’s a little info on what the event is about.

The L.A. Invasion is mainly a domestic event that consists of a Cruise/BBQ, Test n Tune and bracket racing. It’s a 3 day event with a schedule of a Cruise/BBQ on the Saturday, Test n Tune on Sunday and TnT/Bracket Racing on Monday. The Monday that this will be held on is holiday(Memorial Day). TNT day usually brings in 200 cars which consist mainly of street cars. The Monday Bracket/TNT day brings in about 100-150 street and PSCA type cars.

All tech cards/spectator fees all go to LA Invasion. We just want to do a Spring Shootout for the West Coast and make it a Gamblers race for 2 street classes(All Motor and Outlaw Turbo) . The Date of the event is May 29-30.

The proposed schedule is a 2 day Sun – Mon event. Sunday will be 3 qualifying passes and Monday will be all eliminations.

Track location: California Dragway, Fontana, CA
Track opens at 7am and racing starts at 9am. Track closes 5pm.

Estimated fees would be: Race Entry $100(2 day) and Spectator $15(2 day).

Here are the classes proposed:

Outlaw All Motor
- Similar to outlaw street class rules(EtownShootout)
- Weight minimums are pending.

Outlaw Turbo
- 72mm
- air/water – air/air allowed
- 26” slicks
- no wheelie bars, full glass, etc.

** Details on rules can be discussed soon. This is based on cars that ACTUALLY do show up and race at events. I’m looking at cars that I know that are in the competitive level, travel and are willing to pay the entrance fee to compete. We are looking into hiring our own Tech crew to enforced the rules we will be placing in the classes.

Gamblers Race Pot: (tech card not incl) 100% go directly back to the racers
$500 entry fee Turbo outlaw
$300 entry fee All Motor outlaw

Payouts will be distributed to 1st, 2nd and semis. Payouts are dependent on number of cars entering. Entry fee required at the event day, no deposits, penalties or early bird discounts.

Contingencies/Bounties will also be in the works.

The good thing with this event is that it will happen regardless if we have deposits or not. The one thing I propose is that all cars have catch pans. The reason is that this is not OUR event. We want to finish our own race as well as make a good impression that we wont hold up this or future events with any track spillage. If you don’t have a catch pan, there is a $100.00 penalty that will add towards the 1st place pot. It seems only fair for the ones that take the time to have one and the penalty will go back to the racers.

Since there is a 200 tech card limit put on this event. The only thing we would recommend is to purchase your tech card in advance. There is no guarantee that there will be tech cards left once you get to the event. We may purchase a few just in case but please dont count on that.

We hope this event will be the premier West Coast Outlaw event for years to come. The people involved in making this happen are in it for the love of the sport and to keep racing alive here in the West. Please keep any negativity, comparisons to other events, wanting more classes, etc. away from the thread. This is going to be a great event that is happening in the Spring here in SoCal. It'll be a great time for racing, to visit Southern California and to enjoy heads up close racing with the best cars in the West. Thanks for the support!

As much as I'd like to, the racers want a 2 day event.

didn't realize you were doing a shootout. You might not get any of the NW racers like Speed Factory and them (same weekend as IFO Woodburn). If decide to piggy back on to IFO, let me know. May 15 IFO in Vegas would be perfect. Some of the racers from middle of the country are already going to that one.

The 28th is a Woodburn SC event. And the 29th IFO. Could make it work. J/p

Well see if we can make it. We already plan on going to IFO in Vegas. If we have enough money left over we could try. My only concern is if you say 200 cars are going to be there on sat for TNT and 100 on Mon for LA Invasion and the track closes right at 5. How are we going to have time for 3 qualifying runs, and have time to do a good 16 (just saying) car field with everyone else there. I say this always going to street legals at Fontana and barely able to get 3 or 4 runs in without hot lapping.

I am all for the 2 day event, and even if we cant race well be there to support at least.

Hey Cliff, you know we dont want to step on toes at all man. Thats why I called you before hand. We can still do a gamblers race for the Vegas IFO. Alot of us are going to your event for sure. Who wants to miss a Vegas race. LOL.
We didnt expect to get the NW guys and thats not a big deal. We don't expect to get any East Coast guys either. Thats all fine.
The truth is, majority of the Cali/AZ/NV racers are not in the financial standing to do the OR race anyways, thats why I didnt feel it would cause any impact on that event. If I thought it would, you know I wouldnt have gone through with this date.

I'm still down to do some gamblers race at the IFO Vegas for sure. I'm sure most of the guys in the class would be as well. Overall, the consensus was they wanted a 2 day event and this was the agreed upon venue for it.

Street Legals Fontana has almost 500-700 cars. Thats way different than 200 cars. 3 qualifying in 1 day isnt hard. I'm not sure if you confused it. the TNT on Sun is the LAInvasion TNT. Not a street legals TNT.

3 qualifying in a span of 7 hours on Sunday. Monday Eliminations is 4 rounds on a 16 car field. At the last 2 rounds, its only running 4 then only 2 cars. It doesnt need that much time. There's plenty of time.

Yes I understand that. I was just saying if Invasion already has 200, say 100 Imports show thats 300 cars. Thats not a bad number compared to the 500 we get at street legals. Lets look back at Battle, it was about 24 cars that broke in what the first hour. Even if it didnt rain out they werent going to make it to eliminations, get what Im saying. Like I said well be there racing or not racing. I just want to make sure if we go for racing well get to race. I would perfer the outlaw race to have its own race and not have to piggy back is what Im more getting at.

I didnt make my point to start and agruement at all. Sorry if it might have seemed that way. True even though some of those 24 cars that broke might not be able to make this event. The TNT for Invasion is still street cars is it not? Again not doing an agruement just saying my thoughts.

Will, give me a call or shoot me an email (see sig). Again, didn't realize you were talking about a gamblers/shootout race. Racers are willing to drive far away for that, so you will be taking racers away from the NW event. As I recall, those guys won the last West coast shoot out which I thought was being put on by the same crew?

You are welcome to piggy back on to the May 15 Vegas IFO.

actually the west coast shootout was going to be done by us first but i backed out after steve and m factory decided to do utah! they deserved a race in there neck of the woods. we did last year and we are planning a even larger event this year. hate to see the outlaw thing get played out or to even see anyone having 2 west coast dates conflicting with each other sucks. try to work it out guys.

to keep the bickering down this is how it goes, If your not going to make this race, dont post. The people who want to make IFO will make IFO regardless. The people who want to make the SoCal race will make the race

^ Give your input on which event you'd go to if there was a Hot Rod Shootout. Vegas IFO on the 15th or Woodburn, OR IFO on the 29th.

We'll look into setting something up based on what you guys say. Jason and Ricardo, let us know what is best for you guys too.

Vegas IFO of course, Im asian so cant miss an opportunity to gamble. lol! Mainly bc its alot closer though, about 3.5 to 4 hour drive. I would only attend Woodburn IFO if the cost to get there and back is available. I went to Vegas IFO last year and it was only about $200 to get there and back. (Includes race entry, race gas, gas for the tow vehicle and little nick nacks.) I would imagine Woodburn IFO is double maybe triple the cost plus way more drive time. I think Ric and Jason would agree on this.
