Did you know that Mugen made 2 different versions of their Ferio wing for 96-00 Civic? There are actually 4 possible versions of this wing out there. Sit back and I'll tell you all about them! :corn:
1) Gen 1 wing with Gen 1 base (ICB's yellow one)
2) Gen 1 wing with Gen 1.5 base (My white one)
3) Gen 1.5 wing with Gen 1 base (My silver one)
4) Gen 1.5 wing with Gen 1.5 base (ICB's red one)
I'm going to refer each piece as either Gen 1 or Gen 1.5 because this is a similar issue as the Mugen oil cap where there is one part number, but 2 slightly different, authentic versions out there. You can see there is one part number in Mugen's catalog from 96-98 and 98-00: 84112-XGE4-K0S0, but there are definitely 2 distinct versions of both the wing and the base.

If you want to be particular, there were two different model numbers. The other was 84112-XGE4-K0S0-ZZ. cxSHOE was nice enough to have it translated for us all.
I'm going to break this down into 4 parts; one for each piece that is different. The color difference on my bases is due to some oxidation on the surface. They are the definitely the same color in the places where there is no oxidation. I believe the bolts on my Gen 1 have been replaced since they don't match my Gen 1.5.
Gen 1 Base: There is an R stamped on the right side and an L on the left side. There is less casting material around the mounting points on the top. The bolt holes at the bottom that attach to the trunk are noticeably shorter. The thickness of the base is the same as the Gen 1.5.

These next two pictures belong to Hikaru:

Gen 1.5 Base: There is an R stamped on the right side and an L on the left side. There is more casting material around the mounting points on the top. The bolt holes at the bottom that attach to the trunk are longer. This would appear to be an improved, stronger version. The thickness of the base is the same as the Gen 1.

These next two pictures belong to Hikaru:

Gen 1 Wing - Without emblems: I have to assume this is the first version out there because I've only seen 2 of these, and I seriously doubt Mugen would make a revision and remove the emblems. It is made of ABS plastic and will have one of the 2 metal bases and the > A B S < stamp on the right side. It has smooth sides with no indentation at all where the emblems would be on a Gen 1.5. I am unsure what kind of hardware Mugen used to bolt the base and wing together, since I've seen 3 different kinds.

Gen 1.5 Wing - With emblems: This is the version most people have and are familiar with. It is made of ABS plastic and will have one of the 2 metal bases and the > A B S < stamp on the right side. There are emblems on the side with a small indentation for them. I am again unsure what kind of hardware Mugen used to bolt the base and wing together on this version.

Alternate Version - 98-01 Honda Accord: This is exactly the same as a Gen 1 or Gen 1.5, with the exception being the plastic mounting plate under the bases. The Accord's mounting plate is curved in the back to flatten out the curve on the back of the base. Hikaru was the one that brought this to my attention with this information:
"The spoiler that has the rubber plastic base is actually from CF-4 Accord Euro R, it's basically the same wing, same base. Since the metal base was made early to fit the contour of EK trunk, Mugen put in another plastic base at the bottom so that it fits the contour of Accord trunk, which is flat."

Let's do a side-by-side comparison of these wings. Luckily for everyone reading, I happen to own both versions. I'll also be doing a comparison with images from ICB as well, so no one can accuse me of having a replica. ICB's own pictures feature the Gen 1 and 1.5 wings and bases. The silver wing is a Gen 1.5 with a Gen 1 base. The white one is a Gen 1 with a Gen 1.5 base.

Now, let's compare the ones from ICB:
The yellow wing at ICB appears to be a Gen 1 wing with a Gen 1 base. I don't believe the owner had the wing shaved as ICB claims, since it looks the same as my Gen 1. I believe this wing was one of the first wings Mugen made.

The red wing at ICB appears to be a Gen 1.5 wing with a Gen 1.5 base. The base appears to have the Accord pad, which makes me think this is a later version from 98 at the earliest. I believe this was the final version of the wing.

It's quite possible that I am mixed up on the order that the 1 and 1.5 bases were made, so they could be the other way around. The way I explained it seemed to be the most logical to me.
Since there seems to be 4 versions of this wing, I have a theory about the bases and wings. The bases could have been redesigned by Mugen at a different time than the wing, leading there to be some Gen 1 wings that had both bases depending on when it was bought by someone. The same thing goes for the Gen 1.5 wings. If the wings and bases were redesigned at separate times, this would explain why there are different versions out there.
Also, perhaps the bolts on the red wing from ICB were replaced, since I haven't seen socket head cap screws on other wings. Most seem to have allen head bolts. If you have more info on the type of bolts your authentic Mugen wing has, please post in this thread and let me know.
Are there fakes or replicas?
Yes there are. Fugen (Fake Mugen) wings are around and they are pretty easy to spot. Fiberglass or plastic bases are always a dead giveaway of a Fugen wing. If they are made of fiberglass or carbon fiber, or have poorly designed metal bases, they're fake. There are some excellent discussions about this in several topics around the Intertubes:

Here's some pictures of known replicas in carbon fiber and fiberglass.

Watch out because some of the fakes have metal bases as well. Make sure you look for the engraved L and R on the sides of the real bases. Notice how the fake metal bases don't have them.

Some of the metal fakes are convincing, but look how thick the baseplate is compared to a real one.

Finally, make sure you look for the > A B S < stamp on the right side of the wing. The real one is in silver, while the white one is a replica. I'm not aware of any replicas that have integrated this in yet. There are two more pictures of a replica in green as well.

A real wing will look like this:

Props:
Mooshin, for pointing out there were 2 different versions in the first place.
Hikaru, for his pictures and general knowledge about this rare piece.
ICB Motorsports, for using their pictures.
Onsite EJ8, for his pictures of a replica.
You guys have done a lot of homework on this before I came along. I was able to compile this information and add my own observations to the mix because of you all. If there is anything that is incorrect or needs to be added, please let me know.
If I used a picture of your car or a photograph you took without crediting you, I will be more than happy to add a credit if you let me know.
