Default Constant oil light.

I went to look at a super clean 91 hatch with a b16a swap. The only thing that has me wondering is the oil light is on constant. When you start the car from a cold start (20 degrees out) the oil light is on. It doesnt flicker or dim when you rev the engine. It is just on always. I am guessing that it is the switch or wiring, but wanted a little more input. I assume that in 20 degree weather that even a beat oil pump will make more than 4 psi of pressure on cold start, but I could be wrong.

Thanks for the input everyone, I can't install my gauge at the ladys house while looking at it and the car is not registered so I can't drive it to my garage.

Thanks.

Check the oil pressure switch behind the block.

Yep check the oil pressure switch. Make sure the wire for it is connected. if it is The switch could be bad or the wiring is ripped or shorted some where along the way to the ecu...

If the oil pressure switch is unplugged the light will not come on at all. When the switch grounds the light comes on. I had a single cam that never built up oild even after replacing the oil pump twice. Never figured out what was wrong with it. Hook up and oil pressure gauge to the block and see if it even has oil pressure.

Hoping in doing all of this you checked the oil level.

I bought the car today. Oil level is good, hooked up the oil pressure gauge thats all good. Replaced the oil pressure switch with one for a 99 SI. AND the oil light is still on, I will look tomorrow for some wiring issues, try and pull codes from the ecu.

Also, the car runs great until WOT then it bogs hard. Will engage vtec at 1/2 throttle, but full throttle is bog city. Any suggestions on that would be neat.

Thanks.

What model hatch is it? if it was dpfi they might not have switched the wires at the TPS.

you need to check the whole circuit with a multi-meter. there's no telling what they did that's causing the light to come on. i don't think vtec should work with that light on. and at half-throttle?? is it chipped?

I going to have a good look at the ecu and wiring tomorrow, I didn't have time tomorrow. Vtec will engage at 1/4 or 1/2 throttle of I am just rolling on the gas, as soon as I give it full throttle it just stumbles and cuts out.

And, I am not sure about the ecu being chipped or not. I will post my findings tomorrow. Thanks everyone for the input.
