Default B series tutorial

just to make things perfectly clear......

all B series motors will bolt in using the same motor mount kit. whether it's place racing, hasport, HCP, custom, whatever. the crv B20 might be different, get the mount from a B16 or ls motor.

the shift linkage should also be purchased from the same company supplying the mount kit.

the B18/ B20 motors are 7 millimeters taller than the B16. they require a longer header (such as the header for a GSR, DC sports JDM integra replica) and the valve cover will sit higher in the engine bay due to the taller block.

there is not that much weight to be saved from stripping the interior. in the back of a CRX, there is about 15 pounds of plastic side panels and cargo covers. don't think that stripping your car will have you running lower times.

TRANSMISSIONS: 88-91 civic/crx's require CABLE transmissions. hydraulic transmissions from 92 up do not currently have a bolt in kit and are difficult to fit without a good deal of knowledge. either get an ls or B16 trans from 88-91.

quarter mile times: these are difficult to predict. go find out for yourself.

i hope to stop a lot of redundant questions. if someone had made a post like this when i was learning about cars, i would have saved a lot of people's time.

And dont forget to check out http://www.hasport.com for some great info on wiring and axles. its in the tech section.

And remeber when your making clearance for the altenator and folding down the lip on the rear crossmember, you might as well cut off that damn front mount. That thing was a pain in the ***. Why isnt that in the instructions?

good idea there man..hopefully people will read this. the difference w/ the B20 is you have to change the driver's side mount bracket on the motor w/ one from a b18 or b16..the stock b20 won't work. as for the b20 needing a longer header, i used my stock b16 exhaust manifold, which bolted up fine to the exhaust i had built for my b16.

really? your B16 manifold worked? that is interesting. i thought that with the taller block they required the longer headers. oh well.

the reason i put that up was because i was so damn tired of people posting---
will a B16 fit in a crx? how bout an ls motor fitting into a hatch? can i use my stock axles, shift linkage, steering wheel, carpet, rims?

Hahaha! Good tutorial mang. However, I do think that stripping the rear can make quite a difference, if you also take out the tar and spare tire Made a difference for me

THANK YOU x100!!!!
I didnt know about the Crossmember.

Ill be getting my B16A for my 91 hatch tomorrow! S1 tranny, so no problems with hydraulics there!

Hasport will be doing my harness... interesting about the shift linkage.

why would u feel necessary to put this remark in..it has nothing to do with b-series. those that want to strip their cars can strip their cars. if you gut all the interior, the carpet, the tar underneath, the heater and all that sh*t you will lose a pretty good amount of weight. i've done it to two diff crx's and the butt dyno agrees with me. i got my crx si down to 1980lbs and i only gutted the interior, the tar and kept everything under the dash. my hf is now COMPLETELY GUTTED...i have a driver seat and a dash..thats it. you CAN NOT get around physics man. less weight = go faster.

A couple of things. First of all, the B18A/B18B/B20 are not taller than the B16A. The block may be taller. But the head is shorter. It all comes out to a motor that is of about the same height. As for brackets, these are different with ANY newer B-motor (1992+ SIRII B16A and 1994+ B18B as well as B20). If you are using one of these motors, you need the 1990-1993 Integra driver's side and rear transmission bracket to make the swap work.

My LSVTEC (B18A1/B16A1 cleared the stock hood (barely) in my 90 SI CR-X the oil pan sat real low to the ground at minimal drop.

Some things I would liek to throw in is that if you are building an LSVTEC/CRVTEC, use head studs, but aftermarket opistons and rods while th motor isi open, sleeve it is you will boost it or you will regret it.

My humble opinion is that the LS tranny is the best for the CR-X, even with the gears, the car is so light, it dosen't matter.

I'm gonna save this thread for quick answers to repeated questions. Anyone care to add to their most hated/want to answer for the last time topics?

If you can find an actual SIR (gold) shift linkage it will work with b16 crx. Well in mine it did. I have the XSI rear bracket, and Hasport billets! I wish I would have known before the swap though. I was stressing that I was going to have to have hasport fed ex me their shift linkage for $$$

Heres a replacement parts list for b16.

Monty , I have always used B17A1 top end parts/gaskets for replacements, and they fit perfect everytime.

as for gutting the interior, i would not do it again. i had to remove my front carpeting and sound deadening because of a bad fuel leak, so now all i have is floormats. i would like to get some front carpet again. i removed my rear interior parts except for the speaker brackets and i would put it back in if i still had the stuff. i pulled the panels out to put in a roll cage that i still haven't welded in. it just sits in my basement. you do drop about 50 or so pounds from removing everything in the car, but i hate the look of that. if you feel the need to strip your car, that is your choice. i just really dislike the look of a gutted crx because crx interiors (90-91 si's anyway) look so nice.

where the hell did someone hear that GSR/ B20 heads are shorter??? they are all very similar castings.

haha. it does increase interior noise a decent bit. unfortunately a lot of older crx interiors are crap anyway..scratched up, etc. so what the hell. i like the look of a gutted crx. #1 its a small car so it gives u more elbow room. u can also haul around more stuff in the back with those useless interior pieces out. and like i say. less weight go faster. thats all i care about.

Actually, even the B18A/B18B labors with the LS transmission. I have found that only the B20 can really pull decently with an LS transmission.

But the problem lies when kiddies doesn't take the time to search and read.

As for stickies..you have my vote....and we should do one for the rear brake(disk swap) too!
