Default EK brake upgrade

are there any simple or direct bolt on brake upgrades that aren't too expensive? maybe something from another vehicle.. or a super cheap big brake upgrade? Im boosting my car over the winter and I want to improve my braking too. Any ideas and suggestions would be nice. Thanks.

We need to know what exact model you have. EK doesn't help.

I have some ITR front calipers and redrilled prelude rotors fo sale. Prelude rotors are 11.1 as opposed to stock Si's which are 10.2.

meh, not good to assume.
Could have been anything from a 96 dx coupe/hatch to 99 si.

Chef Andre's idea has my vote. My friend's car will freaking put your head in the dash if he slamms on the brakes. (98 ITR)

That or, Integra calipers, which have a bigger piston, and will likely be cheeper to get then ITR calipers.

just a heads up about itr calipers......

- they are the same part number as 97-01 crv
- acura vigor
- prelude, forgot which model though

there are many used sources to locate a cheap upgrade

The other good option is to check out "Fastbrakes", great company, great prices!!!

The knuckles are different, integra calipers are a straight bolt on for EX/Si models. Otherwise you need to swap knuckles as well.

OP, what kind of pads and rotors are you running?

side note: who is that guy on here that does all the oem brake upgrades.

i remember he had a thread about 5 lugging an ef.. then went on to make threads of instructions using the prelude rotors and all kinds of good stuff??

i want to say he had the word black in his screen name.. avatar was an obscure picture of the brakes on his ef. iirc

I would keep your current setup.

Make sure you have the 40/40 proportioning valve, the correct master cylinder and brake booster for the setup (since you orig. had a dx) and then install a good set of pads.

Should be more than enough stopping power, I know plently of guys that track with that setup. Infact, I had ITR brakes ALL the way around and actually downgraded to the complete EM1 setup because I liked it better.

Remember that brake upgrades induce unsprung weight and those ITR calipers / rotors are VERY heavy respectively.

CX, DX hatch/coupe, HX and Si all had the same prop valve. The only ones that are different are the EXs and DX/LX sedans.

Knuckle are different, You have 9.6'' brakes were as the Ex/SI have 10.3'' in front and the SI has rear disk.

Right. That was more centered around the master cylinder. In fact, he already has the correct prop valve & brake booster. My recommendation would be just a larger master cylinder (7/8 from EX/Si) and then a good set of pads the next time he needs them.

Hawk hps or hp pads and some brembo blanks would be a great setup, also I would flush the brake fuild. depending on how it looks.

no no no.. you got it all wrong. your gsr brakes are fine for anything you'll ever need to stop for. and any big brake kit you are looking at is more likely to increase stopping distance.

do this:

after which get a good set of tires. a good sticky set of tires is the best upgrade you can get. after all, they are the only part of the car touching the ground.. so the more friction you can generate there, the better your brakes will shine.

correct, I should have stated that.

The best brakes in the world wont do crap without a good set of tires.
