just got a 94 prelude, but it has an f22a1 what are some ways i can convert to maybe a b series or an h22a, or atleast is it possible to switch the head to a dohc vtec? also with it being a 94 i dont have the tail lights i would like to have. how would you go about converting to the more slim and longer lights? if possible, thank you

B series will not fit into a honda prelude.
Buy an obd1 h22a for 900 bucks and drop it in.
taillights you can not convert unless you do a bunch of welding and bondoing and in the end it will make your car look worse

You never want to cheap out on buying an engine, buy from a reputable dealer even if the price is a little more than most places.

I got my H-Series for only $900.00 shipped from Japanese Star Motor located in Albany, NY. Go H23A VTEC blue top if you can; more torque baby!

thank you, so far im thinking about ordering the h22a from japanese star motor. would i have to get a new transmission also? also the h23a seems tempting for the extra 300 dollars. would i have to do anything else to make that fit?

IMO, H23a isn't really worth it for the extra 0.1 displacement, H22a is a more direct swap. If your curious about what it takes to swap the H23a VTEC search for the Blue Top Mystery Motor thread, has lots of good info.

If you're handy with the wrench and can assemble your own motor(s), you'll save a lot in the long run holding out for a little bit and finding a good one to rebuild. IMO finding a motor with a spun bearing and a good crank/mains is better than a stock H22A/H22A4/H22A1. Because at the end of the rebuild you have a motor that has new rings, new bearings, new everything for less than a used motor.

the H23VTEC swap is pretty direct imo if you're OBD1 from what I understand. I've personally owned one and worked on one and the most confusing thing was simply the OBD1 and 2 differences. But given that you're talking about a 4th gen, it should be fairly straight forward. The 0.1 liter displacement doesn't seem like much but the torque makes for a notable difference throughout the low-end and mid-range. If you think about it, picking up 10ft/lb of torque throughout the entire powerband over an H22 is pretty good irght?

Just my 2cents on the idea
