Default Knocking noise at 700-1kRPM

I'm not sure if I should be looking at the engine or the transmission on this one.

I noticed just as I'm letting off the clutch and accelerating, there's an audible knocking noise coming from the engine bay from 700-1000 RPM. Then it just fades away after 1100 RPM...
I had a friend rev it up to that RPM range while I listened to the motor for the knocking but it sounded just fine, not a peep. I tried accelerating it very slowly so that he could keep up and listen to it but it wouldn't make the noise. It always makes the knocking noise when I'm on the roads and accelerating with the flow of traffic.

It's driving me nuts, I don't have access to a dyno or anything of the like so....how would you guys go about finding the source of this noise???

We tried putting it on jack stands and accelerating but still nothing, I know I'm not hearing things cause everyone else who has gone for a ride with me heard it too.
