Default Anybody boosting an Odyssey van?

I know... I know. We don't need to discuss how lousy an idea this is. Let's discuss the possible.

Here's what started this. I've got potential to pick one up on the cheap. and the thought of throwing a few pounds of boost on a J35 with an automatic trans (in a minivan) is interesting as hell to me for some pitiful reason.

2nd gen, 1999-2004. it's a 2002, so its a 5 speed auto with the 240 horse j35 (which I could use for something later when the trans blows out on the van).

Not sure about this project. Just spit balling the idea and thinking about storing that J35 for later too. AFTER we race the van.

Anybody doing an odyssey van? This ain't about winning races, it's about laughing your butt off smoking the hides off in the waterbox and running a 12 with all the seats in it. Just good clean fun. (on the cheap).

Didn't R.J. DeVera's mom Charlotte(?) race one waaaaaay back in the day? I remember reading an interview from her where everyone stepped in to help when the engine blew? Didn't it go 12.20's or something like that? Someone help my failing memory please?

The transmissions in those generation Odys are garbage and have a hard time keeping up with the stock 240 hp. The '05 and '06 transmissions were better, but the '07 and up have the stronger 4 shaft trans out of the Ridgeline. The 6 speed manual out of the TL Type S will work with some modifications... Do a serch for the One Lap of America Odyssey. Theirs was 400+ hp and has the 6 speed manual conversion. The guys that built it work at the Honda plant in Alabama which builds the Odyssey. As an Odyssey owner, I like where this is going... Keep us informed.

We've boosted 2 of the first gen odysseys, but the 2nd gen trans are junk, and often fail stock

thanks guys. I appreciate everybody keeping it positive and light.

I've been reading more about the transmissions. NO love for the auto transmission in the odyssey. Lot's of fail as you read around on the web.

I'm seeing a lot of complication with this. I might still try and pick it up just to horde the J35 for later. I'm gonna cross my fingers. We'll see.

If a 6 speed manual could be tossed in there and add a clutch pedal... that would be crazy. I don't care one lick about gutting and ruining this van and welding stuff wherever.

I'll let you guys know if I end up with it.
