How much can I sell my 99 CRV for as mechanic special?
I recently found that my CR-V has low compression in one cylinder and that the cylinder head must come off. The mechanic told me that I was looking at a minimum of about $1800 to fix - and that once they are in there, they may discover other problems (ie: cracked cylinder) and that it could be even more costly. I have opted not to fix the problems and get rid of the car. Any advice on what to price the car at would be appreciated. Automatic, power windows, door locks, no accidents, no rust, new tires, working AC, stereo, recent safety check. 123k.

I am looking for advice on pricing - not inquiries on purchasing. I am not going to sell the car until I have a very clear idea on what it is worth.
Thank you!

This should answer your question. - http://www.kbb.com/
Being that the car is in Hawaii may make it harder to sell with an engine needing work. On the mainland, it easier to get used engines, etc. to swap in; therefore, easier to sell.
Might be able to get a Japanese b20 for 1000 out there. more power, less money if you are willing to do yourself. for 1000 dollars your value would go up at least 2000. worth it to me!
Well, the OP's post is regarding selling the CRV as a mechanic's special, does not sound like the OP wants to or is able to do it him/her self. So, the suggestion may be kind of moot.

Yup I got it, just trying to bring to light how spending some money can make it worth more. I don't think sharing how to get the most money out of something is ever moot.
Its possible that this isn't too low for a CR-V that needs work, seems a little low. But sight unseen wouldn't you agree that with a proper running engine you could get atleast 4-5000 for it?
Thanks everyone! I'm going to hang onto it for awhile. It looks like I may even be able to get it fixed for the cost of the parts alone through a mechanic friend.
