Pro1 or Pro2 cams for a 1.8 street application?
I have a set of Pro1 cams as a starting point for a build ive been working on, and plans have changed from a relatively mild street build to a more aggressive street build, so im debating whether I want to try and trade them for Pro2's or just hold on to them. The application would be a ls/v bored to 81.5 with roughly 12.1 compression, maybe a little more, but no less, and of course all the supporting mods. This is my daily driver, but I figure with good tuning and assembly, neither of these cams should cause issues, although I have heard of the pro series line eating rockers
. According to skunk2 specs, the pro2's are meant for a 1.8L with 12.1+ compression, but I always read about people with similar applications and people telling them its "too much cam". On the other hand ive seen dynos of stock bottom end type r's with pro2's making really good power, I even saw one comparing the cams on a stock bottom end and the pro2's made more power everywhere than the pro1's. This is gonna be a street car and I dont plan on taking it past 8800 rpm max, so my question I guess is should I stick with the pro1's because I wont be maximizing the power of the pro2's to make them worth using? Any help would be appreciated.

i'd stay pro 1's
or go Tuner 2's if you want the High end power but not as much low end
and guess what most racing on the street your going to be in vtec so those big non-vtec lobes don't really mean much

Im too concerned with low end and mid range to go with the tuner series, I feel the pro series offers similar top end without costing the low and mid range drivablility, hence the appeal. As for a street car not needing non vtec lobes, I think that arguement can go both ways, if its going to be driven on the street I want to have power when not in vtec, its not going to only see 6k+ when driving to work . . .
This is the thread I mentioned, it kind of swayed me toward the pro2's in the first place.
Please read over this.

I think the Pro 2's would be your best bet. I was looking over my dyno graph with ITR cams, and I have a similar torque curve to the Pro 1's. Go with the Pro'2 to get the most out of you build.

The pro 2 cams will work well for you running the 89mm stroke and 12+ compression on that bore. Don't worry about the "valvetrain wear" if your rocker arms are in bad shape, changing out the cams with another will cause problems. Not installing them correctly, using the proper lube, break-in process and engine oil can cause further problems. Most of what you read is someone's opinion.

Pro2 loves 12:1 and higher CR. I ran my pro2s in my H22 pretty hard every weekend and my rockers are still as smooth as glass. I ran them from April til Nov of this year. It's all in the oil as lubricity.
Just throwing my 2 cent... I have a 81 X 89 Pro 2 build, 11.9 CR... These are great cams... I wouldn't trade them at all... Just remember to dialed them in properly and perform a V2V clearance check before...
