Default Turbo Gearing?

Hi Guys,

Recently had my build H22A JDM BB4 bottom end + H22A JDM Type S head with Accord Type R Cams (UK) Holset Turbo mapped. Running 475hp (fly) and 360lbft @ 1.1bar with a rev limit of 8800rpm.

Before upping the power i want to look at a gearbox / ratios / fd's.

Im running a H22A7 gearbox of an Accord Type R (UK) and it currently tops out 5th gear 8800rpm and off the clock is around 170mph.

Id really like to extend 2nd and 3rd gear, in the Dry 3rd gear is ok. And i really want to increase my top speed.

Current Ratio's are:

U2Q7
98-01 Accord Type-R
1st / 3.307
2nd / 2.090
3rd / 1.481
4th / 1.071
5th / 0.870
FD / 4.266

Heres a quick video, 4th is really nice and long for the boosted setup, but the rest dont work well.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks
Jay

There is a gear ratio chart in the FAQ section in the Prelude forum. If your in the UK, the M2K4 H23 trans has stupid long gear ratios. Youll probably break 200 mph !

Cheers guys i found these spec's and some are really long, i mean seriously long, where i think i might drop out of boost.

Is anyone using the F22 tranny here? I used this calculator and the ratios seemed to be too long. http://www.catherineandken.co.uk/sti/tyres.html

The F22A1 is showing a top end of 231mph lol, but the F22B is showing 191mph. Using these specs. http://hondaswap.com/reference-mater...n-specs-29132/

Gotta make sure there not too long so i drop out of boost as my boost is high up, so i need to keep it above 6500rpm.

My current dyno graph:

Looks like the 88-91 Prelude Si box would be ideal.

88-91 Prelude Si 3.166 1.857 1.259 0.935 0.794 ?? 4.062

1st 50
2nd 85
3rd 126
4th 169
5th 199

All i need to do is increase my rev limit 9000 and it will be geared to 204

Just need the power now. Anyone got any videos of boosted Honda's using F22 boxes?

Cheers
Jay

Im sure the 88-91 is a B20. It may not fit. Have you considered an M2S4 USDM H23 trans?

These ratios are very similar to the USDM M2L5 F22 Prelude

On Youtube you will find L'Orange's H22 powered hatch. Hes running an F22 gearbox and doing 140MPH at the end of the 1320!

Ahh i found my old user name!! Anyone got any recommendations on driveshafts? Im currently adding another fuel pump and turning up the boost and want to use drag radials. I have Type R shafts but dont know how strong they will be with drag radials and hard launches.

Cheers

What type of driving do you intend to do? Honestly I think with slicks you would want something like the H23 (M2S4 tranny code) tranny. Reason being that if you're maxing out the F22 tranny out to 200+MPH or whatever it is, you should be considering a dogbox (straight-cut gear transmission). That's just my 2 cents on the issue, you're either breaking everything in the drivetrain reaching super duper unsafe speeds, or you're looking at a dogbox. looks like a beautiful setup though as far as the engine/turbo setup goes

So far as the driveshafts, you should be fine, as long as you preload the car, to launch properly. Plenty of guys have run high whp on stock axles, launched on slicks etc, on stock axles.
