used si's...lookin at em
so, i had posted on here before about looking at the 2011's..but now I'm seeing the used ones dont really hold their value all that well...well, not toyota well.
so, I keep finding 07's, like this one here...http://used.cogginhondadeland.com/de...a-a955579.html
with mileage in the 50 to 70K range.
My question is, with this kind of mileage, what is the next big maintenance interval on these?
I know with most cars you'd be looking at a timing belt pretty soon, but these have chains.
So, what should I ask about when looking at something like this car I posted? I do plan to drive it with plenty of shifts in and out of 3rd gear...
anything else?

Don't hold their value well? You posted an 07 with no nav or accessories with 60k for 17 grand. Theirs not supposed to be any unplanned maintenance till 100k+/-.
Most I'm seeing with this kind of mileage are under 15K.
New they are over 23K.
At 100k, just out of curiosity, what kind of maintenance is due?
i'm asking every single seller if they are having 3rd gear synchro problems, or if it has ever been fixed...and so far every single one has said they didnt know there was any 3rd gear problem with these cars
is the problem that widespread?

Thats your problem right there. Believing in a salesman. I bought my 2006 couple months ago. Get in for a test drive and clutch is gone. I get back and say no can do, clutch is fired. He told me o... We didnt have a problem driving the car an hour away. We later work out a deal, i got the car fairly cheap. Did the work my self the follow weekend and the car drives well except for a good ole second gear synchro is bad.
Make sure you test drive the car your self. Try a high rpm shift into second. Put it in third gear and give a little tap to see if it falls out. I got lucky, my third gear is fine. Besides from some notchiness to comes and goes with going into first, second or third.

good tips on the testing the tranny and 3 rd gear, I'll use that on my next test drive

There is a thread here somewhere that had ?'s and answers on the suspected 3rd gear issues in the 2007 si's. The problem was supposedly fixed and the 08-current si's do not have the problem.
I'm getting a new 11' si in the spring and have been researching pricing as well, from what i can see the avg brand new si in my area, New England is selling for around $21,000 w/o any additional options. When you add summer tires and trim packages or the hfp package and nav it jumps to $25,000 new.
Figure if you pay it off in the usual 60 month/5 yr loan and drive an avg 15,000 a year it'll be at 75,000 miles roughly and you owe nothing on it. $14-16k private party value is pretty damn good for a car you owe nothing on.
just my opinion from what i've been looking at.

There really isn't much you need to maintain with this car. I'd probably ask about how often they changed the oil, what gas they ran in it. What they used the car for mostly (city/highway), check out the area they live in, if it's full of bad roads and pot holes i can pretty much guess the suspension is definitely worn in and will need to replaced sooner than later.
Typically with a Honda at 70-80k miles, you'll get another 30-40k before you'll need to look at shocks/strut replacement, brakes, clutch, perhaps a Timing Chain Tensioner. Other than that, everything else a typical car might need with age, coil packs don't last forever, Alternators, batteries. It's all a gamble with a used car.
As far as holding their value? What Toyota are you comparing it too? A Corolla S maybe would be a good comparison, but comparing it to a Camry is stupid.
I've seen low milage(20-40k) Si's 07-08 go for 15-17k, usually an unmodded car is worth more. I'd say that is pretty good for a econo sports car. Can you say the same for a Corolla S, or a Cobalt SS... lol, maybe a Mazda 3

the local honda dealer to us will not come off the msrp of 23K.
this is one reason we refuse to buy new now.
so, I'm seeing 15 to 16K for ones with 60K miles, and I'm thinking about going this route.
It's seems wishy washy depending on the dealer i guess. I've been to places where they won't budge and i've been to others that'll drop the price 1-2k without saying a word.
Depends also if you believe in end of the month shopping for a car. I did this by accident with my current 06 ex. Went on the 27th of the month and i got my car used 1 owner, no issues with 48k for $9,900 (financed). It was listed on the lot for $14,500, that was in april 08. I also had a $3k cash down payment. so i saved $1600 off the purchase price.
Depends on the area too i guess, if your in FL than it's easier to sell an econo sport coupe down there vs' the snow belt i live in. So dealing up here may be easier, as demand is higher in a nicer climate (speculation)?
Either way good luck with whatever you purchase.

Yes,
there is a 3rd gear issue in some Si's....
however you would have to check if such Si falls into the issue....
what i mean by this, is that only some Si's have the issue not all of them....
since they are marked by a unique VIN number, the manufacture has the ability
to check from which number until which number the problem is at...
have the service run a recall check on it, and if the problem doesnt show, then there is no problem at all..
at least thats how they do it at the Honda dealer where i work at!!!!
Good Luck...

I just picked up my 4 dr last month, 2007 with 37k miles for 16k. The TSB thats listed for the 3rd gear issue, theres no vin range for the 2007 4 dr Si, it lists all. I can notice it on mine a little sometimes when I try to go into 3rd it feels like it doesnt want to go in, so I just bring it back to neutral and try again and its fine. I got the extended honda care on mine so Im thinking sometime before 100k ill take the TSB in and say something about it.
Other than that its been golden, then again I been out the Honda game for a couple years and was glad to get rid of my old beater hahaha...

I just sold my 2007 si coupe with 39k on it to the dealer for 14k. Wish I hadn't I miss it. Know I am stuck my wife's used 2000 civic with 100k and she got a new jetta. Grrrrr
end of the month shopping is a great idea. I know that at the dealership I work at in Ok, our salesmanager is MUCH more lenient on how much he drops off the price of the car. Go on the last day of the month or the last saturday. Good luck on buying an Si
At the end of the month dealers need to move cars to be able to keep the financing on the cars they do not own, the bank owns the cars, they just pay a monthly note on them.
New car lots generally only keep the cream, and they put as little money as they can into the trade and try to sell the cars at full retail, when you look at the value of the car look at the lowest book value or if you can find the loan value.
If you can buy a used car for the loan value you are getting a good deal, car dealers put as little in your car as possible when you are trading usually at or below the loan value.
I bought cars for years doing just that, I bought at or just below the loan value and sold them at low retail, I made a decent living and you got a great deal you couldn't get anywhere else.

sedan, we have a 20 month old.
love it so far. Cant wait to get it out onto an autocross course, and then maybe a track day at gainesville or sebring.
definitely not nearly the hp of the mazdaspeed3's I was looking at, but still enough to be fun.

Just bought a used 06 FG2 coupe. Fiji Blue. 25k miles. 2 owner. For $14.3k in the midwest. Seemed like a good deal to me, but reading that people are paying 15-16k for 07s with 50-70k on it makes me think I got a SMASH of a deal.
I just bought mine on Monday from carmax for 19k with a 75k mile warranty including taxes and title fees. It's black with 34k miles and a one owner car. I traded in my 05 SRT-4 for it.
I'm going to be selling mine soon, I'm having some medical problems, the car runs great I put a little work into it clutch, shocks/struts, brakes, rotors plugs, and a progress rear stabilizer bar.
The front bumper is chipped and could use to be painted, but the car looks great otherwise nice interior etc.
I will take 13, I have that much into the car if anyone is interested in a very good running decent Si coupe PM me I'm in NE Pa.

these cars are great investments and hold their value very well, my mom traded her 08 si coupe with a big dent in the rear quarter panel for 16,00 with 50 thousand miles, which is a good trade in considering she bought it for 20,00
