What finishes do you guys prefer?
I know which one i like, just curious about other peoples inputs. I have had some requests from customers for really cool finishes.
the first set of pics is of 2 differnt finishes actually. Half the manifold well call finish A (the shinier one) the other half well call finish B, the duller one. They both have an interesting sparkle to them. I am eager to see what the sparkly gold will look like after the car is started.
and this is the traditional glass bead. It looks ceramic coated and you cant touch it or the oil on your hands leave a permananet mark.
... this is my favorite

BLING BLING..the shiny one. u could consider getn them coated...that would preserve the color upon startup and heating. ceramic coated w/ aluminum color...www.hpcoating.com

I think the shiny one looks better, but like you said, what will it look like after it runs. This is what really matters. Poly-dyn has a ceramic coating they call "titanium" that looks pretty good. Very similar to the color of the shiny one, but not so shiny. We have ours Jet Hot coated and it looked great when we got it back, but after a few dyno pulls it faded alot.
Hey Geoff, imma go with the different choice, i actually liek the duller ceramic colored finish, in fact, i think thats what my Kooks Will look like in a few days when i get it back from the welder

you read my mind, do you know if ceramic coating the manifold would prevent it from cracking? are tubular manifolds just prone to crack?
i have asked several reputable people/shops and i have received different answers each and everytime.

Tubular manifolds are certianly prone to cracking, but usually only when a thin material is used. If thick material is used and the heat is allowed to act on a larger area with better insulation to ambient temp air, the manifold does not go under nearly as much stress.
Cryo is great as is ceramic many people have differnt opinions but if i had a choice i would cryo the stuff.
I have yet to have a manifold crack.

Thanks for the input guys. The finishes are a little option when people order manifolds, but they are far less than the way overpriced polishing shops (at 75$ an hour and a polish job is about 8-10 hours yikes) so for people wanting a really wild look for a reasoanble price these finishes can be put into the stianless.
i dont know of any black chrome looks i can ask the polisher and see what they say tho! thanks guys

Quotes from a females point of view haha.
" I like the shinier one."
"Well, i wouldn't want the one that gets "stained" "
and
"I would prefer my engine bay to be sparkly.

Geoff. If you make one with a ****-brown finish and sell it at half the price of the bling bling ones then I will take 2, k.
Looking good on a serious note. I would have to go with the polished/goldblue after heated look to compliment my intake and valvecover on the new motor.

Well its not really going to be possible because the finish is not a "coating" or anythign, its simply a result of spraying particles at the surface of the stainless steel to change the way it looks. The shiny look is a result of a shotpeen usign a heavy grit compound. The finish can not come off like a jet hot coat or a ceramic coat becuase there is nothign to actually come off, it is simply stainless steel. Its similar to just sanding the stainless, onece you sand it the scratch marks from the sand paper leave a finish and that is not going to change.
The manifolds can see up to 1600 degrees, if the tuning is a little off. A healthy egt should be around 1300-1400 imo.
