Honda CR-V Add-Ons
I will be purchasing a 2011 Honda CR-V EX shortly. I have a few questions that I hope can be answered.
1. Can I install the wheel locks myself or does a Honda Tech need to do it and is it a worthy investment?
2. Splash guards. Is it a good idea to get them?

2. Splash guards are good.
We get snow and rain where I am. I was looking at the length of the splash guard and they do not seem very long. I am wondering if it will be enough. I also notice there is black molding running along the bottom of the exterior cabin looks like it can provide some kind of protection. Is that enough?
How can the wheel lock be defeated if you have a unique key for it?

Thanks for the feedback. I also ran across collegehillshonda.com that has some positive reviews from previous buyers. Do I have worry about buying old or bootleg items from these vendors?

For the wheel locks, people claim bolt extractors, similar to these Sear bolt-out can remove them easily. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00952165000P
College Hills Honda, Handa, and Bernardi are all actual Honda dealerships. No worries about bootleg items. Bernardi Honda's site list superseded part numbers. Handa for the most part sells genuine Honda parts, they will list when something isn't OEM, such as the Weather Tech floor mats, and if an air cabin filter is not from Honda. I did get brake pads from Handa before that weren't the newest part numbers; as they didn't list the part number on their site; however, I didn't complain, as I got the pads very cheap from them.
Is the OEM splash guards the same as the one I saw on handa-accessories?

Sounds like it might be a waste of time to get wheel locks. Just trying to find inexpensive means to protect the CR-V and/or make it more difficult to steal parts off the car.

The Honda part number is 08P08-SWA-100, which matches the number on the instructions.
I like Handa, as they are in California where I live. I always had them deliver; but, one of these days I will just do "will call" and pick up from them.
only thing wheel locks do is deter your average thieves. but if they want them, they will get them.
more than likely your factory wheels are not desirable enough to be stolen. so really the locks are just causing you a pain in the ***. and if you have some really cool or valuable wheels on there.. well.. these days thieves will just take the whole car and worry about the locks at their leisure. i personally hate wheel locks.

It sounds like the most that one can do is be conscious of where one parks without being paranoid about it. Don't lose the FOB car key and hope that the engine immobilizer will be sufficient. I hardly see or hear anyone using the Club and or LoJack.
I have to agree. Where one parks make a world of difference, that's why depending on the area, I will sometimes pay to park in a parking garage. When I see broken glass on the sidewalk, I don't park on those streets, as its means people are breaking car windows and doing ****** and grab.
Well. I finally got the CR-V. Everything looks good so far. Even though it is my second car it is so hard to avoid being over protective about. I am sure I will have other questions that I need advice on. Thanks everyone for your input.

WeatherTech floor mats ROCK!
custom fitted to your car... very nice. Looks a million times nicer than the walmart floor mats, and they stay put too (the previous owner installed walmart floor mats I have in the accord like to slide all over and they're a hassle)

Snap On has a tool for removing wheel locks. It is very effective. Used in body shops and junk yards ect. Wheel locks do the same for piece of mind as it does to deter thieves. A little. It makes you feel good and I would tell myself "At least I tried". But it is true, if someone wants it bad enough, it's theirs.
