You are going to need a clutch that matches your transmission. If the splines on the clutch disc is not the same as the splines on your trans it will never line up and go together. If the clutch service is wide enough on the flywheel for the clutch disc to ride on and the pressure plate lines up with the bolt pattern on the flywheel you shouldnt have to change to a 88-91 Flywheel. I ran a JDM D15B with a D15B2 Clutch and pressure plate with a D16A6 flywheel and never had a problem.

1988 tranny has 21 splines
1989-91 has 20 splines.

1988-89 have smaller flywheels
1990-91 have bigger flywheels

You have a 89 tranny because you told me you had one groove on the shaft of the tranny.
Meaning you need a 1988-89 flywheel bolted on the b7.

The b7 block is off a 92-95 civic and uses a larger flywheel like the 90-91 ef.

The reason it bolted up to the d15b correctly is because you used a 90-91 dseries flywheel/clutch.
90-00 flywheels are the same size.

I used an 88 clutch and pessure plate because i had an 88 trans in it with 21 splines. I have no idea what year the flywheel was it came with the motor. I dont know where u got that i used a 90-91 one from. the splines on the 88 trans are different.
