Gapless top rings?

Hi.
What do you think about gapless top rings? Are there any tangible differences compared to conventional rings?

I believe they cause the bottom ring not to function which can increase power (due to less friction). Of course this means your really only sealing compression with one ring. Hope it's a good one...
