Hey guys just picked up an all stock clean title fresh paint 95 eg hatch DX. Has 250,XXX miles on it, 5 speed.

Have had some over heating issues with it the past couple weeks, I replaced the thermostat/gasket, flush the radiotor, and replaced all the hoses, and it still managed to over heat.

Bad news bears, it blew a head gasket, so now I'm stuck
on what to do.

I don't wanna fix the gasket, I'd much rather swap it.

So here's my question to you, what Is better to do? D15b or b18b?

I had an integra with a b18 and b20, and I know it will be rather difficult to swap because i would need new motor mounts, tranny, clutch, etc.... If I switch to b series.

But with the d15b I'm not so sure what I have to do to swap it.

Does it mount right up? Can I use the same tranny? Or do I upgrade to an Si tranny? Is it hard to configure the vtec ecu and wiring?

What it comes down to is what's easier and cheaper to do.

Please help me EG brothers!

Yes the d15b will mount on right and yu can use the same tranny or use an si tranny. as long as their d series trannys yur all good

 

the d15b will bolt directly in place of the paperweight you have now. just run a couple wires for vtec stuff.

but you gotta pull all that **** out in either case to put in a new motor. so do you just want to buy a motor.. or do you want to buy yourself a ls swap?

or could you find another d15b7 for 100 bucks? rather than spending the extra cash for some over-hyped turd motor unwanted in another country.

or should you just put a $30 headgasket in it for now and drive it to work while you figure it out?

Is that how much head gaskets are? Well I can get the d15b for 250$ full swap with p28 vtec ecu and everything. The guy is swapping in a b16 so he doesn't need it,

I'd like a full LS swap because I prefer dual cam over single, and i've been very happy with the b series motors, but it's way more expensive.

I would just like a working car, but if I'm gunna get because I don't wanna fix the gasket ( which is gunna cost me like 400$ to fix) I might as well make the swap a little worth while.

If you've got the money swap in a b18b1, it's worth it. If you dont have the money just fix the headgasket and save till you do have the money to swap. d15b is still slow and its going to be even slower with your stock trans.

A head gasket shouldnt cost you $400, it can be done with a simple tool set + some machine shop work.

 

Well I can't do it myself. I can imagine the actual parts being cheap themselves, but the labour sounds kind of time consuming. Wouldn't I have to take off the head and clean all that **** out? I've never replaced a head gasket.

I can get the d15b install for 500$.

B18 done right gunna cost atleast 800$+ with tranny.

But i do agree the b18 is much more worth it and I love that motor. But if it ends up coming to the same amount to fix that gasket as to swap it, why wouldn't i do that?

Op, You've really got to decide this for yourself. Both are good engines. The only thing I will tell you is doing anything with a D15B7 is complete waste of time, once they blow a headgasket they're never the same again.

 

Go K24 all motor, they are no joke

 

How many miles does that one you're gonna buy from your friend have on it?

< 70k. 200$ for the complete swap.

And my stock motor has over 250k....

I think I'm gunna go with the d15b for now

obviously I wanna go with b series later on. But I think for now the d15b will
in fact be better than my current motor if I fix it. Plus V TAK is always nice.

 

Lol...I think that's a good move for now...and it'll give you some good experience so that way when you do perform the b swap you're a little more familiar with how things go.

 

^ agree. set aside a little extra to replace the timing belt, water pump and clutch.

 

YES^ good catch...do everything you can with the engine on the stand and save yourself alot of time and effort...clean the intake...throttle body...iacv...fitv...new gaskets on both...valve cover gasket...as mentioned about timing belt, tensioner, water pump, and clutch. If you can find a y8 manifold for cheap go ahead and throw one of those on...I found one locally for like $20 bucks.

Yea. I had a 97 4 door integra with a JDM b20b I swapped in, that was pretty easy to do.

But I have never delt with single cams, and EG's. Should
be a nice learning experience than.

I'll try to stack some new parts than like the timing belt and water pump. And I'll make sure me and my mechanic clean and oil everything so it's nice and fresh.

I am officially going with the d15b

 

If i was you i wouldn't do a d15b i would get a b20 or ls those are the cheapest dual cam motors.

FYI I don't want power, I've had a b20vtec 4 door teg, I'm not worried about going fast anymore, I know what motor I need and build to go fast.

I wanted to know what was easier to do and if d15b's were decent motors, which I have come to the conclusion that they are economical, easy to swap, and not to fast or powerful but good enough to get places.

Like I have said, I WILL get a b series motor in the future, but it seems that it's better to have this swap to just fix the gasket.

 

Yes that's true, i've had one. But it's
more expensive to get a b series motor into an EG than it is to gey another d series in.
