Default electrical help - brake lights wont turn off

First off let me just say.
i checked all the fuses and none are blown.

now lets get to the problem
I am having to take out my rear brake lights because they wont turn off.
This runs my battery down, and it is unsafe at night.
with this being said
when i open the driver door, the interior light doesnt come on.
the dash lights are a little dim, but work.

any help.

could it be an old alternator?

have you checked the push type button under break pedal to see if its stuck or is bad thats what causes the break lights to come on and go off when appling and letting off the brakes.

one problem at a time!

check the brake light switch on the pedal.. see if it is bad. if it is good and they are coming on then find the short.

is the interior light bulb blown? is it's fuse? if no, find the short

how dim are the dashlights? what kind of car is it? they aren't bright as a new cars to begin with...

try that or make sure the clip didnt break that holds the push button in place cause that may have it akward and why its not lined up also

i hope so too.
i crawled underneath, and had my brother stand out side.
i had to push the brake down a little bit to get my finger to push the button, and sure enough, the lights came off.
